Occupy Denver: Protesters confront Governor Hickenlooper during benefit (VIDEO)

occupy hickenlooper tiny.png
The Thunderdome's brief meeting with Governor John Hickenlooper has been captured on video -- and on YouTube -- and you can watch it below. Pay special attention around the 3:53 mark, when Hickenlooper exits the Denver Rescue Mission and is immediately subject to loud questions from the protesters. Corey Donahue and Scott Greene get face time with the politician, who quickly slides into the car waiting for him.

During the minute-long meeting outside of the governor's visit to a Denver Rescue Mission holiday meal event, protesters shout demands such as "Resign now!" and question Hickenlooper about the repeated deconstruction of Occupy Denver's kitchen tent, which feeds its own homeless population. While the two sides talk quickly on the sidewalk, one protester is holding a large sign that quickly takes charge of the video clip: A fake Hickenlooper head spends the last section of the clip hovering just slightly over the governor's own.

Here is the clip:

You can't have your police force literally stealing food out of the hands of the homeless one night, then try to feed them with a smile the next morning. It's hypocritical and exploitative. The people standing in line were very receptive to what OD is about because the homeless are the quintessence of a failed economic system. The Thunderdome provided food for anyone and everyone 24/7 with no strings attached and no photo-ops driving their purpose. Food and shelter are human rights. These politicians don't care about the starving and homeless, but we do.

Boy - You gotta love Robert Chase. He is in the video at 3:20 shouting  "Hypocrite Hinkenlooper, and the Mayor don't give a damn about the homeless"

Robert Chase: Why didn't you say in person and in public what you say on here about Mayor Hancock? Specifically, why did you not yell out "Hypocrite Hinkenlooper, and Mayor "OREO" don't give a damn about the homeless"?

No need to answer, since the answer is obvious.

OMG.  Screaming and yelling profanity is not a way to engage a dialogue.  Clearly not what Occupy Denver wants.  They just want to vent.

BAD IDEA, Westword. Don't give the celebrity treatment to Corey Donahue, aka biggest creep in the park. Even nearly all the other protesters wish he would leave and not come back. Ditto with the ABC assholes.

It also doesn't help to see OD members soliciting participation from homeless people, which makes up nearly all the protesters at night. Most of the people you see talking on TV go home when it gets cold. That's a fact the media should point out. Go down there at 10 o'clock and try to find anybody you saw doing interviews at 6. Won't be there.

This part of LoDo is as blighted as it gets. The Denver Rescue Mission does not own the property or even the public sidewalk on the east and north sides of the mission. Denver Rescue Mission at any given time of day or night is surrounded by hundreds of drug addicts and dealers. Denver Rescue Mission owns The Crossings on Smith Road that use to be a motel. They put up a fence around The Crossings and drug dealers can no longer reach the homeless. The Crossings is doing an excellent job helping the homeless. The city should find some piece of real estate to swap with Denver Rescue Mission that has land in addition to a building that the Denver Rescue Mission could control so that drug dealers cannot reach the people Denver Rescue Mission is trying to help.Since the Rocky Mountain News on Gene Amole Way has been converted into a jail and Denver County and District Court, the old Denver County and District Court at 1437 Bannock St is no longer needed. The vacant Court House  should be offered to the Denver Rescue Mission in exchange for the property at Lawrence St and Park Avenue West.  Part of Civic Center Park could part of the package to excahnge.

Don't forget Handcock slipped out the back like the rat he is.  If you are so proud of the work your doing then there should be no reason why you don't go out the front door unless this was a bullshit pr move.

He actually did say that. I'm not a fan of that statement, personally. But, he did say it in person.

I did precisely that -- is that the obvious answer?

Put these idiots in an octagon and I promise you'll see man tears. So many words but no conviction. Though - that kind of defines the movement.

Don't be naive Mr Manumba Ney.What would you rather have, 200 drug addicts or 5,000 drunks? That's what the creepy governor would do if he could; turn the Bauhaus rooftop of the Denver Rescue Mission into a 5,000 seat Bar.Leave bad enough alone.

Corey - Have you sexually assaulted anymore people since the "incident" of you grabbing another mans testicles which occurred last month ?

And do you really think it A-OK to violate people like that?

He slipped out because he had his family with him. Knowing your penchant for disruption one can only assume he wanted to protect his family from your lunacy. I say the protection of ones family trumps all PR moves or other reasons you seem to deem unworthy? You know, I for one think the whole Occupy movement is reckless and baseless, however, I don't really care what they choose to do with their time. From what everyone knows though Corey is that your ego is far too bloated and continues to detract away from any viable message that comes to bat for the occupation. And getting a felony? Getting a felony during the Occupy movement is like getting a tattoo in Cabo on Spring Break. Sure it was fun at the time, but once you sober up you're really going to regret it.

The answer is that you are a racist pig with no backbone.

You feel fine calling Mayor Hancock an Oreo on the Westword blogs, BUT when in public, and surrounded by black folks, you just call him Mayor Hancock...

You are a spineless, racist, and extremely unintelligent turd.

We caught him in the alley -- see the last post on the subject (http://blogs.westword.com/late....  No protection of anyone was necessary; neither of people using the front door, nor of those who chose to hop off the loading bay.  Corey has done nothing felonious of which I am aware, and you and that criminal Morrissey should choke uttering your stupid libels.
