Reader: Occupy Denver could find better places to house the homeless

occupy graffiti ballustrade.jpg
Even before Occupy Denver protesters started setting fires in Civic Center Park last night, they were wearing out their welcome with some people, who tired of seeing Civic Center Park, which Mayor Robert Speer envisioned as a crown jewel in Denver's crown, turned into a trash heap.

Says Notwoofka:

Wrapping the trees with red tape is wrong. Tossing trash into the trees is classless. Building more permanent structures on the sidewalk is just asking for a raid. If OD wants to house the homeless, there's a nice vacant lot on 4th and Santa Fe that would provide a great place to build a tent city and kitchen.

People have mostly camped on the sidewalk since the last mass assault on the (four) tents, but people have slept in tents within Civic Center Park within the past week.

How about Robert Chase or Corey Donahue's house? They are the ones most often defending the rights of the occupiers on the WW blogs. Why don't they open their doors to these people instead of forcing them to live on the streets?

Wingnut ideology clearly motivates your ridiculous question.  You do not believe in collective responsibility for the homeless people in our City, and you have not a shred of compassion for the homeless -- you despise them.  Amoral creep!

Robert lives under a bush in Cheeseman Park.  He has no doors, and his live-in squirrel lovers would be jealous.

I know from firsthand experience that you are completely wrong.  The protest is confined to a tiny strip at the eastern extremity of Civic Center Park.  I believe that you are quite deliberate in your misrepresentations, i.e. you are a liar!

The media's conceit that protesters have (significantly) damaged public property has been eagerly seized upon by the wingnuts, and repeated so often that those easily hypnotizable are now bleating the same nonsense.  The homeless are treated as though they were rhetorical footballs; some commenters insisting that there are no protesters in Civic Center Park (only scummy homeless people), others claiming that OD forced the homeless out of the Park as their first order of business; the common thread being that the corporate media has been so disinformative that people's minds must make things up to fill in the obvious gaps in the media's narrative of lies.  The notion of acquiring information firsthand is quite alien to TV-addled brains.

Speaking of making things up to fill in the obvious gaps, Robert, have you ever wondered why you get into so many arguments on the Westword blogs?  Do you think it's that so many others are actually "idiots," "liars," and "ignorant," or do you think it's that you're a sad, pathetic little man screaming for the attention that your parents never gave you?

To answer your second question, many, many people are idiots or liars, and as for ignorance, it is the common state of humankind prior to being educated, and many people prefer to remain in it.
