Update:This morning, the Aurora Police Department is revealing that William Moore, thirty, has been arrested in connection with the January 18 homicide of Ebon Kelly, 29.

The charges for which Moore is being held and investigated include second-degree murder and possession of a weapon by a previous offender.

At this writing, Officer Frank Fania, public information officer for the Aurora Police Department, doesn't have a list of Moore's previous record. However, he notes that this charge means Moore has at least one felony conviction. Thus far, the APD has not obtained the actual weapon used to slay Kelly, who was found in the front yard of a home on the 1200 block of Xanadu Street during the early morning hours of the 18th; he was identified the following day. However, the charge has been added because Moore had to have possessed a gun if he's found guilty of firing it at Kelly.

Moore was identified as a suspect early in the investigation of Kelly's death. Among the units that assisted in rounding him up were the Aurora Police Fugitive Apprehension and Surveillance Team (FAST), the Gang Intervention Unit (GIU) and the Direction Action Response Team (DART).

Original item, 2:59 p.m. January 18: Residents of an Aurora neighborhood got a very violent wake-up call this morning, thanks to the sound of gunfire.

One man died as a result of the shots, and his killer remains at large at this writing -- but the cops don't see it as a random act of violence.

Thus far, the information provided by the Aurora Police Department is sketchy in the extreme. At approximately 6:20 a.m. this morning, the APD received a report of a shooting on the 1200 block of North Xanadu Street. This claim was quickly confirmed: An adult male was found lying in the front yard of a house along that stretch of Xanadu. He died after being transported to a nearby hospital.

As for the gunman, he fled. And while no clues about his identity or whereabouts have been shared to date, APD reps believe he knew or was at least familiar with the victim.
