Here's how one reader debunked a common misconception about the latter.

Most rapists don't rape because they are ugly or can't get laid. More than a few have wives or girlfriends, and access to legal sex. They rape because they get off on the power rush, and/or they get some kind of twisted thrill from preying on people like it's a sport. Look at Ted Bundy and Paul Bernardo, for two examples. These monsters were both considered intelligent, good-looking guys, and had no shortage of willing women. Yet, they chose to rape and murder.
