•     When I was a teenager I was a close minded, selfish, myopic person. I never was very introspective and I hardly ever felt empathetic towards others. Part of this selfishness was my age. I have since grown up and realized that empathy is the most important thing in the world.                                                                                                                                   Empathy must be learned. No one taught Ryan Miller empathy. He was sent to a private school as a young kid where they would use corporal punishment. Then when he showed some aggression as a child, his parents sent him to a corrective boarding school in Mexico where he was severely abused. Later in life, his parents continued to set a bad example; they are not good people. Children must be taught to care about other's feelings and needs. If they are not taught, then they need to learn from themselves, and some people never do.                                                                                                                   The extremely unfortunate circumstances in which Miller was born and raised are the most likely reasons for his violence, but they are no excuse for it. To feel like you own someone to the point of being able to extinguish them if they no longer please you is mind boggling. However he can serve as a good example for why parents need to teach their kids to be caring individuals with goals and passions in life. An abused child will turn into an abuser; abusive people should not procreate.  Regarding encouraging children to have goals, I believe that a child has to be equipped with the necessary tools and be encouraged to dream and research as much as possible. In this day and age I think that a master's degree or doctorate in an essential field like engineering or healthcare is the best tool a person could get. Without these tools, children who have had visions of grandeur may not be able to succeed like they had hoped. These fallen dreams often lead to drug dealing or theft, or criminal activity in general. Many people want a big life but don't realize that they cannot have it without putting in due diligence. Children should be encouraged to go through school, even when it seems pointless, hard, and too expensive, to be able to secure themselves a good career. Then they have the necessary qualifications for living the big life they've imagined. I believe without these tools, someone like Ryan can base his entire happiness on another person, which is very dangerous. When that person disappoints you, it's like they are ruining your life since your whole world revolved around them. I think kids who have big hopes and dreams and the tools to make them come true are less likely to lash out at others that they feel have treated them unfairly.                                                                                                                                                             I had very good parents, and although they taught me empathy, I forgot it for a while as a teenager. Once I had a huge act of violence perpetrated on me, I realized that not harming others is the most important thing that we can do in this life. Can you imagine if everyone in the world's mantra was to be open minded, put yourself in other's shoes as much as possible, and take care of each other?          People have to learn to let go of fear and hate. There are so many methods for changing how you think. It's the most basic thing that so many people forget: you control your mind. You are not subject to your emotions. Exercise is one way that people can become better individuals. Not only does it clear your mind but it cleanses your body. On the same note, another way to be in charge of your emotions being positive is taking care of the body like a temple and eating a diet that nourishes the mind, body, and soul. Another way to maintain a positive outlook is to have a sound or image you focus on when you are upset. My calming sound is the ocean.              I have had immense grief over Andrea's death. There are so many people who are affected. I think of her family and her students and hope that they can have happy lives again some day. I hope that fear is not instilled in those young children. They should be encouraged to learn from it and then let it go.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               I know this may seem counterintuitive but the best thing for everyone is for a criminal to repent and get better if it's possible. I cannot say who can or can't be saved. I know so many people want to see him burned at the stake, and I understand that.  "An eye for an eye", i.e. the death penalty in this case, isn't something that Colorado is very supportive of. Therefore the most likely situation is that this guy will be back out in a number of years. When he is back out, I hope his violence is over. I hope he realizes that no amount of violence that he could perpetrate could take away all his pain. He will never feel better by continuing this horrible cycle. He, and everyone who feels huge amounts of fear, hate, and pain, have to accept that life is hard. Everyone is dealt a shitty hand in one way or another. Someone may look at my life and think I've been dealt the very best had, but I've had some incredibly fucked up things to deal with. You never know where someone is actually coming from. But I've taken those experiences, become introspective, embraced empathy and the ability to control my emotions, and I've moved on. I don't feel like anything that's happened to me is unfair. Having that mindset is pointless. What goes around comes around. Forces of evil will not prevail. There is a spiritual realm, I know that for sure. And there are forces of good and evil at work every day. I beg you to be a part of the good as much as you can. Fight the good fight!                                                                                                     Positivity, empathy, mindfulness, and balance are the best things anyone can do for themselves and others. The key to happiness is giving to others, while maintaining the best health and outlook you can as a person. I will keep Andrea's family and everyone who has grieved in my thoughts. I cannot grasp how you might feel. I know with absolute certainty that if I were to lose my life, my last thoughts would be of my family, and hoping they were able to live good lives without me, filled with happiness and joy, despite my absence. My soul would be with them. 

• Words can not express how badly I feel for this poor family.  I was on the very outskirts of this situation, and it still has had a profound effect on me.  My intereactions with Ryan were only through other people, and my knowledge of this situation is mostly through friends that were directly involved with this.  Ryan Miller is pure evil.  He was highly capable of charming even the most intelligent of women into thinking he was a victim.  I am so thankful that he was caught before he could harm other people.  Rest assured that he was not planning on stopping with just her.  Rest in peace Andrea!  We never met but you are in my thoughts and your family is in my prayers.

• I think that Ryan miller is a piece of shit along with his friend Rich. I met Ryan a while back and always knew that there was something evil lurking in his soul. Unfortunately he was not stopped in time. There were so many chances, though. Guess his parents bailed him out every time. I didn't know Andrea I just knew of her. I heard so many wonderful things about her. For this to have happened to her makes me sick. Ryan and Rich should die a slow and painful death or they should rot in prison for taking away an innocent life. I hope they burn in hell!

• Andrea was my wonderful niece.  She was a truly beautiful young woman with a remarkable seeking mind and I enjoyed many long philosophical discussions with her.  This psycopathic monster deceived her in an entaglement of lies and painted himself as a victim in all of his life's difficulties.  She wondered if she was doing the right thing in having him arrrested for assault and getting a restraining order against him. All her family told her this was the right and recommended course to take.  Little did we know that anyone would do such a horrible thing to such a sweet person. I hope he suffers monsterously for the rest of his life for the awful crime he committed and the havoc he has wrought on the family and friends of Andrea.

• Poor Andrea. I did not know her well, but knew her well enough to know she was a beautiful person. Rip. To those who took her life shall suffer the consequences

• I don't believe in the Death Penalty. But these guys make a good argument for its existence.
