Photo: Driver deliberately gets ticket so he can flip off photo-radar van

• I'd check your facts....not a single piece of this is accurate.It's 90 days and the city doesn't pay the $29.00 service fee, it's tacked onto the citizen's fine.

• Not legal advice, but I've read articles saying that these oppressive tickets are not constitutional - they arent a summons but a suggestion, and that for you to be compelled to pay, they have to SERVE you a summons or citation. And they LIE when they claim they are not for profit. John Stossel said on his show, that they've been caught reducing the yellow light time by 1 second to trap people, otherwise these would not be PROFITABLE! And if they had to serve you a real summons, they would not be PROFITABLE! Vote to kick out any politician who won't get rid of red light cams and photo radar, they are abuse of power!

• Absolutely true, Lee.. Some people, pay these tickets because they are bullied into thinking they have to.. It is actually making our ballot this year to be voted on by our citizens.. It took a lot of signatures for the initiative, which I signed.. It should have been voted on by the voters in the first place not put in place by the states' government.. How sweet it's going to be to see them come down... We use to have them on our freeways, but our governor took them down when she was elected to office, the only good thing she's done!!

• The only time you don't have to pay of your vehicle gets used is if you were not driving by having the person driving full the back out with there info but guess what I've done this several times when my girlfriend drove and she was never givin a citation either now these cameras take a picture of driver but you could always have a twin so I assume same goes

• Here's one way to avoid paying those pesky photo radar and red light tickets:  Don't speed more than 10 miles over the speed limit and don't run red lights.  Problem solved!

• Here is why these tickets don't have to be paid... They are a violation of the Search and Seizure protections in the Constitution. Basically, Constitutional Law provides that as a Defendant, you have to be served a Summons by a Police Officer or Process Server that says you understand the charges against you and that you must appear in front of a Judge in a trial. When you sign a traffic ticket at a traffic stop, you accept service of the Summons to court. Miranda Rights have basically been acknowledged by you, the Defendant, and then you are required to appear in court. The only way the city can make you actually appear in court or pay the photo ticket, is if they serve you with a Summons. They have 60 days to serve you a Summons to either appear in court to fight the photo ticket, or to simply pay it. If and when the city attempts unsuccessfully to serve you the Summons, they basically throw the photo ticket out. Process Servers charge about 40 dollars per attempt, and the city basically doesn't want to throw more money after serving someone a Summons for such a tiny fine. So, basically, they scare you into thinking they will arrest you, etc, and most people pay these tickets out of fear. Basically, if you get one of these tickets in the mail, the chances are fairly slim the city will actually send a Process Server to your house to serve you with a Summons. And if you do happen to see a random looking person at your front door within a few weeks or receiving one of these tickets in the mail, DO NOT ANSWER THE DOOR. Process Servers are sneaky and clever. Just don't answer the door. If your roommate answers the door, make sure NOBODY at your house tells the Process Server anything about your whereabouts or even that they know who you are, because a Process Server can leave a Summons with your roommate and that is good enough to satisfy the court that the Summons has been received by you.  Its pretty basic. If you get a ticket in the mail, watch out for a Process Server, or sometimes even a Sheriff will serve Summonses, but its doubtful a County Sheriff will serve such a tiny ticket, since they deal with major criminal issues and large civil lawsuits. If a Process Server doesn't show up in 60 days, you are clear. If they do show up, you know what to do...  DON'T ANSWER THE DOOR. Just pretend they are Jehovas Witnesses or something. Simple enough.

• Does it count if I flip off a CSP officer and mouth the word ASSHOLE at him? He DELIBERATELY slowed the traffic AT THE ON-RAMP to the I-70 entrance from the Evergreen Parkway. While everyone was trying to accelerate, HE FLASHED HIS BRAKE LIGHTS AND SLOWED TO 35 MPH! The SHEEPLE immediately stood on their brakes and it took a bit of fancy driving to avoid the instant mayhem that the CSP asshole created behind him. During the drive on I-70, he still played his CONTROL FREAK GAMES by slowing to 50 MPH.. When we passed him, I gave him the " salute " and mouthed the word ASSHOLE at him. He promptly turned on his lights... When he got out, I gave him a royal " chew out " session & dared him to arrest me, the disabled passenger. FYI: FEDERAL LAW  ( the uniform laws that govern the Interstates ) says that ON RAMPS HAVE THE SAME SPEED LIMIT AS THE INTERSTATE THEY SERVE!!! That was what I was taught in class to get my drivers license many years ago. Our  instructor actually used the " chicken brake " on a person who was MEEK and slowing to enter that Interstate on-ramp... Names of the people involved are available on request. The Sgt ASSigned to the case and the officer in question...

• Leslie is correct, "comprehension."  It wasn't a red-light camera.  He was "caught" by the photo radar van that sits in the median along 1st Avenue to catch speeders.  The nearest red light is two blocks away at Gilpin & 1st.

• My man!! I do the same thing at every van I pass just in case, I would rather be throwing the bird at tyhem in the ticket picture too! What these vans and flashes actually do is make drivers lose focus because we are forced to constantly keep looking at the spedometer and the vans to make sure we are within the right speed.  This causes for less attention to actually be paid to the road and our surroundings...just another government funded money trap!

They cannot report this to your insurance company.  They cannot even boot your car.  Keep fighting the good fight.   Also contact Denver Auditor Dennis Gallagher who has asked for an audit to prove that they actually have increased safety v. making money for the city.   Further, contact Sen. Renfroe at the Colorado Senate, who has introduced a bill to eliminate Photo Radar.
