Suspected drug runners arrested in Erie: Pair carried 64 pounds of marijuana Source: http://www.allbusiness.com/crime-law/controlled-substances-cannabis/14055262-1.html Mar. 6--A pair of suspected drug runners are in Weld County Jail on charges that they were moving 64 pounds of marijuana through Weld County from California.Erie police this week arrested Bryan Mark Maynard, 40, of California and Max Hernandez, 40, of Texas after leaving the Erie Municipal Airport with three suspected bags of marijuana taken from a plane, which had just flown in to the tiny southwest Weld town from California.Erie police were called to a field outside of the airport around 7 p.m. Tuesday to a report of a vehicle that was stuck. The occupant of the vehicle, Hernandez, told police and the landowner that he had been using his Google maps to find the airport, where he was meeting a friend. He was apparently trying to get to the airport by crossing the runway in his vehicle, the affidavit stated.The friend, Maynard, told police he flew in from California to log some hours to get his commercial pilot's license.But police grew suspicious of the pair early. Hernandez was apparently too compassionate to the owners of the land on which he had driven, offering to buy them flowers for their trouble; and Maynard was too tight-lipped and acting funny, according to the affidavit.The affidavit stated Hernandez paid a tow-truck driver $110 in cash from a money clip holding easily $200, which the officer thought was strange.An airport employee, thinking it was strange that a pilot would fly into the Erie airport at night from California had been suspicious and watched the two as they unloaded large bags from the plane.The officer stopped them as they left the airport. Two officers searched the car after smelling marijuana, where they found the large bags containing a suspected 63.74 pounds of marijuana.Neither of the men would talk with police.Erie police found that Hernandez had been charged with possession of marijuana in July 2008 and in November 1990 in Texas. Maynard had no record, the affidavit stated.Both men are in Weld County Jail on $200,000 bonds and are scheduled to appear for advisement at 8:30 a.m. March 15 in Weld District Court. They each have been charged with one count of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and possession of more than 8 ounces of marijuana, both felonies.

The Boulder airport is a gas station, do you think that small planes only land at their final destination? I've never been to the Boulder airport without weed, I always thought the tapestry of small American airports were designed to smuggle drugs.
