RTD wants you to call them, maybe.

Starting today, RTD will hold a series of fifteen "telephone town hall" meetings in which residents will be called randomly and invited to participate in telephone forums with members of the RTD board of directors. Residents will be encouraged to ask questions and participate in polls using their keypads.

"This is a wonderful way to communicate with the public," Lee Kemp, the chair of RTD's board of directors, said in a statement. "Not everyone can come to a public meeting, so this allows us to use innovative technology to go straight to the people in the comfort of their own homes."

RTD will call more than 450,000 people between today and June 28. To join the call, residents simply have to stay on the line after they answer. The forums will cover "the latest about current bus and light rail service, RTD's FasTracks transit expansion program and other projects underway," in addition to residents' questions, according to RTD.

The schedule for forums with the Denver RTD reps is as follows:

  • June 13, 6:15 p.m.: Call with Director Bill James, District A, which includes which Denver, Glendale and part of Arapahoe County.
  • June 13, 7:30 p.m.: Call with Director Angie Malpiede, District C, which includes northwest Denver and parts of southern Adams County and eastern Jefferson County.
  • June 14, 7:30 p.m.: Call with Director Barbara Deadwyler, District B, which includes northeast Denver and north Aurora.
  • June 18, 6:15 p.m.: Call with Director Bill McMullen, District E, which includes east Denver, western Aurora, eastern Greenwood Village, part of Centennial and parts of unincorporated Arapahoe County.
  • June 28, 6:15 p.m.: Call with Director Jeff Walker, District D, which covers parts of Bow Mar, Denver, Englewood, Lakewood, Littleton, and Sheridan.

Residents who are gung-ho about joining the conversation can call in themselves to 1-855-269-4484. We know it's crazy. But there's the number. Call them maybe -- and in the meantime, get more information in this clip.
