Medical marijuana: Ten dispensaries targeted in third wave of U.S. Attorney closure letters

The office of U.S. Attorney John Walsh has announced that it's sent closure-threat letters to ten dispensaries within 1,000 feet of schools. This action represents the third wave of such missives: The first, in January, targeted 23 medical marijuana centers, while the second, in March, numbered 25. But when asked if the lower total meant today's action would conclude the operation, a Walsh rep offers a simple answer: no.

According to U.S. Attorney's Office spokesman Jeff Dorschner, "There is likely going to be another phase."

This time around, the office has not released a redacted copy of the letter in question because "the text is identical to the letter in the second phase," Dorschner confirms.

The exception, of course, is a new date for closure: 45 days from today -- September 17.

Regarding the locations, Dorschner can't be specific. However, he does note that "there are some in metro Denver and a couple outside of metro Denver" -- and in all likelihood, the owners of the businesses in question don't yet know they're in the cross-hairs. As in the previous two waves, the news is being shared "the day the letters were put in the mail," he points out. "So the people who've been targeted should receive the letter early next week." That should make for a nervous weekend.

When asked for a comment about the reason for the letters, Dorschner defers to earlier explanations. Although various memos from the U.S. Justice Department have suggested that federal law enforcers should carefully consider enforcement action against operations that are following the law in states that have approved medical marijuana, Walsh has said protecting children and students from illegal drugs justifies the threat to seize merchandise and property if stores within 1,000 feet of schools don't close by the aforementioned deadline.

Here's a copy of the second-wave letter.

Be thankful that the Feds aren't busting and prosecuting hard working Private Pot Growers like this 87-yr-old. Even the State LEFT him with more than 200 live plants after seizing part of the 400 plants he had growing in his backyard. Kudos to this old geezer for NOT growing indoors under environmentally destructive high-wattage wasteful electrical lights.

Note to A64 idiots -- see how utterly pathetic and dysfunctional your absurd 3 (three) plant limit is?

MEDPOTLIE – Dr Darryl Inaba – Haight Ashbury Clinic – San Francisco

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darryl_S._Inaba

Quotes from Darryl Inaba Pharm.D. Director of the Haight-Ashbury Detoxification, Rehabilitation, and Aftercare Clinic / CNS / 20040115 "Marijuana is a substance that contains up to 360 active brain chemicals in every variety a person smokes. We found that just one of those chemicals, Delta-9 THC, thought to be the most potent and causing the greatest amount of brain effects, is altered by the liver.

The liver tries to destroy this drug and get rid of it but in the process, it actually creates 60 or more new drugs that are active in the brain. So marijuana is a multitude of drugs."

"There is marijuana growing everywhere with a very high potency of 14-20% THC. To fully understand importance of this, we must realize that people who smoked in the 1960s thought marijuana was a benign drug.

Smoking one joint today is the equivalent of smoking about 14 of those joints from the '60s.

Thus, we have a much greater concern about the health consequences of today's marijuana."

"The big problem we see at the Haight-Ashbury Clinic is that the potent form of marijuana today is causing a lot more problems than we saw in the 1960s. I never treated a single self-admitted marijuana addict in the Clinic from the early '60s through the mid-'80s.

However, by the late-1980s we started seeing people coming in saying, "Help me. I want to stop smoking pot. It is causing me to have memory problems. Causing me to be too spaced out. Not to function in my work. I can't complete tasks. It's causing me to be sick in the morning and cough. I have withdrawal symptoms. I want to stop and I can't stop.

" We now have at our program in San Francisco about 100 new patients every month who are in treatment specifically for marijuana addiction

Pro_Pot supporters often use the tactic saying, "marijuana is just a plant, a gift from God",

Here is an article from the United Kingdom (England) that shows us the insidious and terrible things that marijuana does to the human....."It cost a baby its life" because its mother was addicted to marijuana.

Article: Drunk Caterham [United Kingdom] mum jailed for letting son drown in the bath

http://www.croydonguardian.co.uk/news/9845606.Drunk_mum_jailed_for_letting_son_drown_in_the_bath/?ref=rss

Excerpts from the article:

"The court heard neighbors had told police about Reeves' heavy drinking and cannabis smoking, with one calling social services after smelling cannabis coming from her flat the same day she returned home from hospital after giving birth to Frankie Joe"..

"Miss Byrnes said: "Miss Reeves had been less than a model parent, who used alcohol and smoked cannabis and had a volatile relationship with her neighbors, but there is nothing to suggest either of the children were being neglected or abused."

"You have been a user of cannabis and were using it at this time. You were undoubtedly

affected by alcohol on that day".

Dear Cartel Growers,

May we, the people of Colorado that consume Medical Marijuana for medicinal purposes and all recreational consumers, request that you rapidly increase your production and distribution efforts in our state.

Specifically, we request that you deliver a Higher Quality product at a lower cost while expanding marketing efforts to reach the Senior population that the state has virtually ignored. We would appreciate the reinstatement of Management Contacts in the Colorado Fortune 500 companies like in the Qwest,  MCI, High Tech days whereas Cocaine was more desirable and easier to conceal. The forest fires will clear the National Parks and in a summer or two the soil will be perfect for Armed Growers that booby trap our trails.

Please provide us with a wide variety of strains also for the many different ailments, Kush & Chem Dawg varieties always sell. We remind you there's still no shortage of vacant homes...Bank Owned Future Grow Houses...the bigger the better. The gated communities are really hurting now so why waste money on Colfax Ave dumps,  I-70 asbestos-laden warehouses, and Federal Blvd. renovated Rockybilt Hamburger Stands.

Yup...bring us your Best and will pay you gladly while the city tries to find funds to pay for Major Federal Blvd. and Colfax Ave improvement projects underway now.  More empty storefronts.

The Good News is  no longer will anyone have to pay for the silly Little Red Permit and the state will not have to justify bogus jobs. You will find a never-ending stream customers here that will gladly refer you to all of their friends, and their friends and relatives, and even all those that wanted a Red Card but were afraid or too smart to get one.

Thanks you idiots. Now there are 100, 000 teenagers in your basements growing pounds of marijuana in your home under your roof.  Too late....too many seeds...too many clones....too many grow videos....too many unemployed hungry Degree holding credit card burning fed up unemployment check cashing citizens who don't care for alcohol or cigarettes.

P.S. Cartel Investors and Distributors.:

Don't  forget the Pre-Rolled Joints and the Chocolate Truffle Candies. There's another $500 Million sitting on the table for Drinks, Lotions, Extracts and Concentrates. Be smart with your packaging by offering Buds and Shake this time around.

See you on the job, or at the Broncos game, or the Rockies games. at the Ski Slopes and in the Mall...Hell...the Cartel works in all of the Public School systems...attends the most abundant religious institutions in the state and their talented children attend Valor Christian High.....Whoa!         The Cartel is everywhere...now they will have no competition at all.

"Walsh has said protecting children and students from illegal drugs justifies the threat to seize merchandise and property if stores within 1,000 feet of schools don't close by the aforementioned deadline."

The only thing he would be protecting is the local dealer at/in the schools from any competition..

This is an open letter to John Walsh:

How do you live with yourself?  Would you say that you are in favor of cancer?  Pro-HIV?   A champion of needless suffering?   A proponent of pain?  You look really sad in your picture.

@rvs44  -- so you're asserting that Dispensaries DO supply pot to school children ?

 @1243 Hysterical Nonsense.

Amendment 20 allows Patients and their Private Individual Caregivers to GROW THEIR OWN "medicine".

The U$ DOJ is NOT targeting INDIVIDUAL PATIENTS or their INDIVIDUAL private caregivers, neither in policy or practice.

The Greedy Big $$ For-Profit Retail Dispensaries are the focus of federal enforcement.

And before you clueless stoners start whining about the Evil Jackbooted Fascists attacking marijuana dispensaries -- note that they received a polite letter in the mail -- not a SWAT team crashing in the door -- and they were graciously allowed 45 more days of criminal activity before having to cease and desist.

Compare the polite letters and 45 day grace period with the way that the DEA recently slammed, arrested and seized millions of $$ in assets from 100s of "legal" bath salts and "spice" manufacturers and distributors across the U$A in "Operation Log Jam" ... no letters, no advance notice, no keep the $$, ... no love.

 @maildail

Would you prefer he give them NO advance notice, and just send in the SWAT teams to arrest everyone and seize everything  -- like they did just last week in Operation Log Jam targeting synthetic cannabinoid and "bath salts" distributors?

@DonkeyHotay Err I have seen kids that looked to be,  between 16 and 18 standing outside of a medical dispensary.  You think they are there just loitering?  They looked like they were dressed up and going to a party.  Just another government implementation to support their coffers yet in the mean time kids are going there to get their drugs.  No question.

@DonkeyHotay @1243 It would be cool if you could be a little nicer. What have you got against stoners? And you call the Feds "polite"? Huh????

WBdroggins
WBdroggins

@DonkeyHotayYep, we sure have come a long way. Now the feds send courtesy letters in advance of their raids. Is this the "kinder, gentler" model of marijuana law enforcement that Safer and Sensible and MMIG want under Am. 64?

When are these dispensaries going to realize the feds will not stop until they are all shut down? They are all just going to bite their nails all weekend hoping it's their competition that gets shut down, not them. They willingly comply with any ridiculous regulation that the government asks for, without a care for what is actually good for the patient. They will continue to pay tribute to the police, to try to make the police's job easier. They believe the feds when they say they are only going after dispensaries near schools, but ignore the reality of what the letters actually say and how the feds started with schools in California, moved on to parks, and now it is any dispensary "too big" by the DOJ's definition. It is all excuses to keep people distracted from what is really happening -- the Obama-approved END of MMJ in the USA, brought upon us by the greedy di$pen$ary owner$ themselves, who had to taunt the feds by shoving their neon pot signs in their face. Thanks a lot greedy dispensary owners, now get the fuck out of Colorado.
