James Holmes is Innocent Facebook group insists it's serious

James Holmes.
Seven weeks to the day since the Aurora theater shooting, the sort of James Holmes tribute pages that popped up in the immediate aftermath of the massacre are showing unexpected staying power on Facebook. Most (like this one) are mainly about shock value. But the largest Facebook group we've found -- it's among several that operate using the moniker James Holmes is Innocent -- insists that it's a serious effort to unearth evidence in the case.

The group, which currently consists of 332 members, is described in a long introduction that users apparently don't want to see cut and pasted all over the web; it concludes with a note reading, "This description is to be used solely by this this group and should not be copied without permission from an admin of this group."

That's a dubious caveat for a collective that's open to the public. But because an apparent administrator didn't respond to our request to reproduce it, we're going to stick with paraphrasing the contents instead of direct quotes.

One of the photos on the James Holmes is Innocent Facebook group page.
According to the intro, the page was created in an effort to prove that the available information about the Colorado tragedy may not tell the whole story. The official tale includes a number of inconsistencies, the authors claim, as well as clues that may not have trickled down to the general public, but which the group will endeavor to share.

The page then stresses that it's not the place for hate of any description, including bigotry and racism, and rude behavior and attacks won't be allowed. Those who post are encouraged to treat everyone with respect, whether they agree with their views or not.

In addition, the intro discourages users from posting about each conspiracy theory that arises, noting that there are other forums for that. It concludes by asserting that justice and truth for everyone involved is the page's main goal. Members aren't trying to condone the taking of lives or blindly back murderers, the passage maintains, but to underscore the philosophy that everyone is innocent until proven guilty -- even James Holmes.

This section is followed by nine rules of conduct for the group, with a special emphasis on trolls, who are told at the outset that cruel comments or attacks won't be tolerated and will lead to removal. And indeed, the most recent post at this writing concerns a young man who claims to have interviewed the Aurora Police about the killings. The item points out that the person in question was removed from the group several weeks ago due to what's called his behavior.

As for the other posts, they are free of the jokes, willfully offensive memes and other hallmarks of the nastiest James Holmes-related Facebook entries (like the one that switched allegiances from Holmes to Sikh temple killer Wade Michael Page) -- and neither are they as worshipful as the the so-called Holmies fan groups.

But that's not to say the collective's wall is festooned with new and startling information that will change the minds of the average person. One recent post asks whether bad grades could really have motivated someone as clearly intelligent as Holmes to act out in such a horrific manner. Another wonders if Holmes's psychiatrist, Dr. Lynne Fenton, might have been using some kind of mind control.

Still, the page represents an interesting evolution in the online reaction to this terrible event -- the transition from the lionizing of a murderer and wild conspiracy theories to unlikely but less feverish attempts to explain the inexplicable.

Whichever way I originally found this article: I do not remember; I do know though I can thank the author for finding the "Jason Holmes is Innocent" group, because it seems to me they've really made a lot of logical sense with their questions. I don't agree with everything, and I've even posted my own concerns that I'm not sure that this "James Holmes" figure is innocent, but yeah, the questions they have posed are those that the media should be asking of the government instead of acting like a bunch of lapdogs and yes-men for it.

been there, done that, they suck, they are not searching for truth they are a group of trolls, who think that what they say matters.  Attention whores,  If you want info, go to ( Truth About James Holmes ) FB page,  James Holmes is nothing but a rag zoo of trolls looking for smelly stuff

@RobertChase RobertChase I am well aware of the definition of eclectic. If this is some attempt to be rude, I am referring to my family (children and husband) as a collective whole. If bringing my family into a horrible rebuttal, appropriate actions will be taken. Please watch whose toes you step upon. If I misunderstood, a better explanation is required.

Mental illness is not funny. I hope everyone involved gets the meds they need.

I don't understand why you are giving this group publicity. News can't be that hard to find. Do you really need to stoop to Inquirer level tactics to get people to click a link?

@kriscuster you claimed to be a journalist and had connections to Adam Kokesh, you messaged people saying you wanted to interview people on this page yet when I came to you you blocked me with no reply, however I messaged Kokesh and he has no idea who you are. Now here you are spreading misinformation. Jonathan Lee Riches is merely a member. What is your true motive? I would have been happy to provide you with an interview, had you just proven to me you were legit.

It's great we're finally getting real media attention, some posts have been updated since. Unfortunately all the good stuff is far down the page as lately things have slowed down. It would be wonderful if some of the questions being asked were addressed instead of false lawsuits, mystery women, and the like. Reporters used to be investigators, now most of them just tell us what they're told to report or copy off of another journalist. Thank you for this article.

Im really glad to see some decent reporting that isn't completely judgmental and actually READ what was written.  Bravo to this journalist.

Thank you Michael!!! Gotta admit I was nervous when I saw an article about our group!! We are consistent and passionate. I personally want to thank each member for contributing and keeping it real! I'm honored to have a place to discuss this and hope to wake some people up to the corruptions and POSSIBILITIES! Again, thankyou for the positivity

It appears that some effort was made to alter Holmes' photo so as to be reminiscent of that of Billy the Kid, to what end, I do not care to know.  Michael, couldn't the James Holmes conspiracy posts occupy their own little ghetto in WW?  Please consolidate all the posts on this subject -- the conspiracists ceratinly won't be troubled by any lack of continuity or coherence in the accounts!

Because this is what psychiatrists do? Geez. Sounds like "wild conspiracy theories" to me.

I've come across conspiracy theorists who believe the James Holmes in the mug shot is someone else, not really the James Holmes in old photos, because the nose is different. These people don't understand that noses can flare and give it an appearance of being wider or skinnier.

@kattr5 No, we don't suck, we are ALL searching for the truth and we aren't "trolls" (as trolls get immediately booted from our group). Next time you decide to run your mouth on something, make sure you know what you're talking about  first - as your comments couldn't be further from the truth.

as well, the mere fact that they all think Jonathan Riche is a God speaks volumes.. troll to the nth degree

@eclecticbrood  @RobertChase Wow I bet your "brood" is as stupid a group of little mouth breathers as you are. Having that screen name just tells me that you WANT to appear wise and diverse in your opinions, but you break the first rule of true wisdom; knowing that you know nothing. Once you start referring to  yourself as OH so worldly, your DERP starts to show. I bet your kids are inbred mongloids and you had them with your sister. "Whose toes you step UPON" LMAO you're trying to replace the word "on" with "upon" thinking it makes you sound intelligent, when it makes you sound STUPID. You can tell a lot about a person by their screen name and how they talk. You're someone who has a lot of books in your house, but you don't actually read them. I bet you own "The Art of War" by sun tsu but you never actually read it, but you brag to everyone that you own it. In fact it's sitting on your coffee table. You and your "brood" are just trailor trash hilbillies.

@rain Good -- the world is ugly and scary enough when approaching it rationally.

@kriscuster Whatever connections there may be, it's really a personal attack on the group, AKA an ad-hominem. It is fruitless, because no one goes around talking about how being insulted has changed their mind.

Instead, I'd suggest if you want to be fruitful, debate the questions this group has asked.

 @kriscuster

@kriscuster Jonathan Lee Riches is NOT a leader in the group, but merely a member. He is there participating, and if against rules, just as another (just as YOU were in violation previously), would be removed. We do not have leaders, we function as a whole. @ rain, you can contact government officials and go over goverment intelligence history and will be told of mind control techniques. They have been used since the late 1940's and are not a "conspiracy" but a real thing. It was initially created in the OSS, now known as CIA, and implimented and created by a psychiatrist.

@doomydarling  @kattr5 No, she's right. You SUCK. It's a boring group of ignorant loudmouths like you. Anyone who says the phrase "run your mouth (ON something, at that, which makes it even dumber)" is ALWAYS the most uneducated, ignorant, mouth breathing IDIOT, and I know this from 30 years of experience.

@j.wagner414    You are right about one thing, you poor, sheltered, bewildering being. You can tell a lot about a person by how they talk. Reading through your comment only goes to show any one that spares the passing glance that ignorance flows from you in an instance of fear and an empty mind. 99.9% of the comments you made are irrelevant in any aspect, but you wished to create nonsense out of thin air. In your attempt to build a digital world where all will hail j.wagner414... you misspelled "hillbillies". Also, while DERP may be good for you on the weekends, I suggest that you keep it there. If you are going to attempt to belittle someone you do not know, I suggest you bring the big guns. One more thing, as far as your feeble attempt to bring up "The Art of War" and present it in text in an educated manner, one should probably capitalize and spell corretly Sun Tzu.  Here is to you, oh "special" j.wagner414: Your attempt to assume you know me is a successful FAILURE. Fear not, for you will know me soon. You really should have reflected on a more successful rebuttal, especially one not mentioning someones children like an ignorant wayward soul with nowhere to go. Here is to GREAT things heading your way.
