What could have fueled 21-year-old bicyclist Taylor Rose's behavior when he allegedly pulled a knife on a truck driver? According to the police report on view below, Boulder cops had a number of substances from which to choose: the booze said to be on his breath, the pot in his backpack or the methadone at a clinic he visited immediately after the twisted incident in question.

At around 10:29 a.m. this past Tuesday, says the report, Boulder officers were dispatched to an area near the intersection of 14th and Spruce. There, they found the driver of a truck, who said he'd been heading westbound on Spruce when Rose, on his bicycle, had swerved in front of him.

Only quick action prevented the driver from smashing Rose's petals, as it were. A moment later, both halted at a stop sign on Spruce and 15th, with Rose next to the passenger side of the truck.

"What the fuck's wrong with you?" the driver asked.

Rose had an answer, albeit a familiar one. "What the fuck's wrong with you?" he replied.

Then, the driver told officers, Rose craned through the truck's passenger window, reeking of alcohol, before walking in front of the vehicle and approaching the driver on his side. Next, he allegedly leaned close to the driver and let out a yell before stepping back and pulling a knife from his pants pocket and waving it in the man's direction.

Naturally, the driver went into freak-out mode, pushing away from Rose and hollering that he was going to call the police -- actions that apparently convinced the cyclist that it was time to move on.

He didn't go far, however. Rather, he stepped into a methadone clinic on the 1300 block of Spruce. Cops snared him as he was trying to exit, with one officer pulling a gun when Rose seemed to be reaching for his pocket. But he didn't pull the knife at that point, and neither did he explain his actions or the 3.3 grams of marijuana found in his backpack. Far from it: The report's narrative notes that he kept asking, "What did I do?" in between denials that he'd been drinking that day -- although he admitted to having done so the night before. He also asked cops to call his mom.

Rose was arrested on suspicion of felony menacing and riding under the influence. Formal charges are expected today -- after which he'll presumably know what he's supposed to have done.

Here's the aforementioned police report, followed by Rose's mug shot.

I never knew SELF DEFENSE was anything like FELONY MENACING.

Cool story dude, I enjoy fiction very much. All charges dropped besides menacing. Also the reason the hair looks so wild is because he got a fiskars scissors haircut from some "friends" the night before. If you want a short version of the REAL STORY read on...

To begin, T is a student and had never once gotten in trouble with the law other than a couple speeding tickets. T got up and was in a rush to go get a few things done. He had recently got off his prescription pain killers (prescribed) and was going to the methadone clinic on Spruce. He was on painkillers previously due to a random mugging/ beating he received in Denver's Civic Center Park. This tragic event traumatized T and he swore he would never let that happen to him again. As he was biking along 14th he heard a man yelling behind him. (There are houses on 14th so the only place to bike is along the sides of the cars on the street) He heard the man behind him in a truck yelling obscenities such as "get out of the fucking road you faggot", "What the fuck is wrong with you", and one that stood out, "I am going to put your ass in a wheelchair". He tried to ignore the man whose name was Jason Thieme as he had stuff to do. Jason was acting very aggressive, and was verbally harassing Taylor who was biking away. At any time he could have easily passed him. Next, T turns left because he needed to get over to Spruce. Jason roared up to him on his bike and was obviously looking for a fight. He aggressively opened his door and was about to get out as T reached for the letter opener in his pocket. T told the man he has stuff to do and to leave him alone. T did not even open the blade all the way, he just wanted to send a clear message to stay away. Jason shut his door and as T was riding to his destination he saw James' truck not far behind him, and realized he was on his phone. T thought Jason was calling his friends/ frat boys to come and hurt T so he quickly went into the clinic and explained he had been harassed by a guy in a truck. Unfortunately, this was a situation in which whoever called the police first would be the innocent one. So basically Jason Thieme called the cops and gave them an inaccurate story. If T would have called the cops Jason would be in his position right now. So, as T walks out the clinic he has guns pointed at him and police officers yelling to get down. They ripped his backpack off (literally ripped off a strap), broke his phones case, and scratched him up nice and good. He recalls that they kept kicking the back of his feet for some reason. As this was happening a woman cop said T smelled of alcohol, and T replied saying give me a breathalyzer test at least 10 times, he also added that they could draw his blood as this method provides much more detailed results. They said he was being taken to jail for Felony Menacing, and DUI which was very surprising to him. This charge was later dropped, the cop probably smelled her partner.

So after a few days in the slammer, tens of thousands of dollars dropped, complete frustration, confusion, hopelessness, doctors appointments, a lot of time, the list goes on, he felt like giving up. Now, after years and years of hard work he felt like it was all a waste of time because once you get a felony, you are basically tagged by the system as a bad person and cant do much with your life. REAL LIFE.

In the end T was given 18 months of probation, 80 hours of comm service, 20 days on house arrest, and random drug/ alcohol tests everyday for 18 months. He should be given an apology from the Boulder police and a new back pack.

T is a very friendly and down to earth person who has never thrown a punch in his life. He is a lover not a fighter, who goes out of his way to help people all the time. This sounds nothing at all like the real Taylor Rose.
