John Hickenlooper: Hear guv go off on KHOW's Michael "Brownie" Brown before debate

Audio below.
Amid the crazy scene near DU's Magness Arena, where last night's presidential debate took place, Michael "Brownie" Brown and David Sirota, who team up in KHOW's afternoon-drive slot, scored a broadcasting coup: Brown provoked normally affable Governor John Hickenlooper to freak out and call the host an idiot.

Hear it and see photos below.

The segment begins with Brown and Sirota discussing how Hickenlooper's spokesman had turned them down for an interview because of a prior commitment, even though the governor had been standing nearby talking to assorted members of the press for several minutes.

At that point, Brown, still best known as the embattled FEMA director under President George W. Bush, took his microphone and joined the gathered press. But as soon as he's heard identifying himself on the recording, Hickenlooper is said to have turned away, with his spokesman acting as his human shield.

The sound of scuffling follows, with Brown accusing Hickenlooper of shoving him and Hick countering by asking why he'd want to talk to him if he's going to act like an idiot.

In the end, an exasperated Hickenlooper agrees to have a chat with Brown and Sirota, presumably at some unspecified (and unlikely to actually occur) date. Afterward, Sirota is giddy about the exchange, telling Brown he clearly has the stuff to be a journalist.

Listen to the dust-up here....

As a bonus, we've also included a clip of Sirota chatting with Denver Post publisher Dean Singleton, who the host roasted in a recent Harper's feature article. (Disclosure: Sirota also quoted yours truly in the piece.) Note that Sirota, who thinks Singleton and Senator Michael Bennet have a too-cozy political relationship, subsequently snapped this pic...of Singleton and Senator Michael Bennet.

The Gov has no requirement to speak to Brownie or any other local idiot media flack trying to 'make his bones' with a gotcha event.  Who the hell does Brownie think he is - the idiot ambush guy from Bill O'Reilly's show?  It's evident by Brownie's commentary that he feels 'entitled' to have the Gov be part of an interview because he served in a Presidential administration and flew on Air Force One; whoop-de-damn-doo! Brownie also couldn't be expected to do his job in New Orleans because he wanted to dine out and have a clean shirt - those who died in NO would have likely enjoyed having a nice meal and clean clothes before they drowned, huh Brownie?!

Just because Brownie and Sirota are on the raydio doesn't mean they are journalists - and frankly, with their exposed behaviour, they're about as journalistic as James O'Keefe, the little slug doing ambush work and splicing video footage for Breitbart.  Just because these 2 mopes had a microphone to shove in someone's face doesn't mean that person is obliged to talk to them especially when that person is otherwise engaged.  Listening to disdain of these jackholes while the Gov was mixing with the crowd is pretty apparent - they think they were more important and entitled to the Gov's time than those 'peasant students' attending Debate Fest.

This has nothing to do with politics: it is simply one egotistical asshole feeling he is not accountable to another egotistical asshole. Party affiliation has nothing to do with it. Governor Fracksalot is a corporate tool and has more in common with Brownie than not: these two should be having a beer together and counting their cash.

Hickenlooper and Bennet have been dodging KHOW for years and it definitely makes them look like they have something to hide.  What's wrong with being asked a hard question?

I had great expectations when the Hick became Governor, he was a great mayor, so why wouldn't he be good as governor? Well for one thing he has slid completely to the far extremes of the democratic party. He is employed by us, the people of Colorado, not the pundits that want something for themselves. What the governor and his henchmen did during this attempted interview was a disgrace. I for one will be remembering the stupid or idiotic things he has said or done during his term as governor and reflect that in the voting booth!

@toogood61 Slid to the extreme of the Democratic party? Who the fuck do you think you are kidding, asshat? Governor Fracksalot is the hands of industry, the same industries that control your precious GOP losers. You are clueless.
