Given the hoopla over tonight's presidential debate at the University of Denver, it's no surprise that politicos with Colorado ties are finding themselves in front of national media cameras. An example from Rachel Maddow's MSNBC show last night: Joan Fitz-Gerald, a onetime Jeffco clerk and state senate minority leader who now heads up America Votes, an organization fighting against what she sees as Republican voter suppression.

While local progressives have accused Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler of engaging in such activities -- allegations Gessler has consistently refuted -- his recent efforts didn't make Maddow's final cut. Instead, she focuses on Mississippi and Pennsylvania in the extended segment below. However, the report is capped by an interview with Fitz-Gerald, America Votes' executive director, who echoes Maddow's point that even voter identification laws that have been struck down by courts or put on hold by the Department of Justice are capable of keeping some people away from the polls simply out of confusion.

Here's the clip: Maddow first mentions Colorado at about the eight-minute, thirty-second mark, with the Fitz-Gerald conversation beginning about ten minutes in. That's followed here by a music video promoted by America Votes: "L.O.V.E. -- Let One Voice Emerge," a pro-voting ditty featuring Fergie, Keke Palmer, Patti Austin, Siedah Garrett, Sheila E, Brenda Russell, Judith Hill, Lalah Hathaway and Jenna Ushkowitz.
