John Hickenlooper cites Cheetos, Goldfish when Amendment 64 passes: Official state munchies?

goldfish pepperidge farm.jpg
Governor John Hickenlooper gave this election a real sound bite when he warned that the passage of Amendment 64 doesn't change the fact that "federal law still says marijuana is an illegal drug, so don't break out the Cheetos or [Goldfish] too quickly."

With Colorado going to pot, it's high time to choose an official snack for this state. After all, Colorado has already embraced everything from an official dance (square) to an official fossil to not one, but two state songs. With Cheetos and Goldfish, Hickenlooper has offered up some appetizing snack options, but as a former bar owner, he shouldn't forget pretzels.

Here's the official lineup of Colorado's symbols and emblems:

And for the record, here's the statement Hickenlooper issued last night on the passage of Amendment 64:

The voters have spoken and we have to respect their will. This will be a complicated process, but we intend to follow through. That said, federal law still says marijuana is an illegal drug so don't break out the Cheetos or gold fish too quickly.
Note: The official trade name for those fishy crackers is Goldfish. We don't believe the governor is suggesting that Coloradans start swallowing actual live goldfish, even if 64's opponents, Hickenlooper included, are finding this election result hard to swallow. But in adversity there is opportunity: Why not convince snack-food companies to relocate to Colorado? The state's eco-devo outfit can start by wooing Pepperidge Farm.

Why is it politicians aren't allowed to have a sense of humor? Geez people, it was a JOKE! Stop smoking it so you can comprehend this clearly!

fuck hickenlooper, and fuck all politicians that continue to belittle marijuana users by spewing out asinine stereotypes.

Sad that Hickenlooper, one of the biggest drug dealers in Colorado history, thinks that self government is a joke. He should have learned by now that marijuana users are not cartoons. They are his constituents.

we should come up with something that is produced/mfg. here. Are Jolly Ranchers still around? Aren't some chips made in Boulder?

Hick will come around when he realizes that: a) if not for A64 on the ballot, BO would probably have lost the state, diminishing his state and national prospects, and b) when the repubs come for his job, he'll need the A64 voters on his side.

State snack nomination: breakfast burrito

Vote no on Donkey Hotay.

Don't forget that Hickenlooper signed the industrial hemp bill 12-1099 back in June.

Hey, Lickenpooper aren't you a fucking drug dealer? remember? you couldn't hack it as a geologist so you started to slang beer. Now, last time I checked alcohol was considered a drug. I wonder how many drunk drivers you are responsible for?

Cheese popcorn! It's slightly healthier than those other two snacks. Colorado has to keep the #1 ranking as the slimmest state.

Chickenlooper is such an asshat. He needs to DO HIS JOB and respect the will of the people.

Hickenstupor's treasonous comments last night perfectly highlight why we needed a constitutional amendment to move cannabis re-legalization forward.  Moments after the citizens of Colorado approved A64 by a solid majority, Hickenstupor slapped them in the face in two ways:

1) Denigrated 55% of his constituents with his highly sophomoric "Cheetos or Goldfish" comment

2) Showed greater support for the Federal government than the people of his own state with his "“The voters have spoken and we have to respect their will... That said, federal law still says marijuana is an illegal drug..." comment.

Maybe you've forgotten who you work for Hick, but hopefully the citizens of Colorado have not.  I sincerely hope a viable alternative can be presented by some party (maybe a reborn Republican party?) for the next Governor's race so we can vote this slimeball out of office and replace him with someone who honors the will of Coloradan's.

@Matt_in_BoulderPlease point out what was treasonous about his statements.

Here is the first thing he said after A64 was declared successful:

"The voters have spoken and we have to respect their will. This will be a complicated process, but WE INTEND TO FOLLOW THROUGH."

His statements that federal law still prohibits any Marijuana use, possession, or production is simply stating fact.  He has an opinion on this issue that varies from mine, and obviously yours, but he also stated that it is now up to the state government to follow through on the peoples will.  He did not say anything about putting up any resistance.

I'm sorry if you were offended by the cheetos joke, but you really need to lighten up.

According to dictionary.com

trea·son   [tree-zuhn]  noun 1. the offense of acting to overthrow one's government or to harm or kill its sovereign. 2. a violation of allegiance to one's sovereign or to one's state. 3. the betrayal of a trust or confidence; breach of faith; treachery.

I'll go with #2 (and a little of #3) above.  "we have to respect their will" certainly doesn't should like someone showing allegiance to his state.  It sounds like someone doing what he is legally obligated to do.  Not much allegiance there, IMHO.

@Matt_in_Boulder  @IZen If you are going to define treason down to the level of not being exuberant, then roughly half the state is therefore treasonous.  Absolutely ridiculous

IZen

@Matt_in_Boulder Let me give another analogy; Was I unpatriotic and treasonous when I spoke out against the war in Iraq that put our solders in harms way for what I saw as an unjustified use of our countries forces?

I consider it patriotic to express your opinion on any subject affecting this country as long as you respect others right to disagree.

Demanding that others profess allegiance to your side of an issue is a much better example of abandoning your allegiance to what the United States is supposed to stand for.

IZen
IZen

@Matt_in_Boulder Some might consider it abandoning ones allegiance to their state not to voice ones opinion on what you believe is best for that state even if it goes against popular opinion.  Like I said,  I don't agree with his opinion but I recognize his right to have it.

If he takes actions that actively subvert the will of the voters than you can complain and I'll be on your side.  Until then I will continue see your attacks as motivated by your personal dislike of Hickenlooper and will weigh them accordingly.

We also passed an amendment to ban same sex marriage.  Are you implying anyone who didn't immediately declare war on homosexuals was treasonous???
