Those of us accustomed to living 5280 feet above sea level often have little tolerance for lowlanders who gripe about the thin air when they visit Denver -- as if they didn't know it was called the Mile High City? These emotions fueled a list originally featured in Westword's Off-Limits column. Count down the top five below.

"In August, Willie Nelson, who is 79, bailed out of a Denver Dumb Friends League fundraiser called Lulu's Barkin BBQ, where he was supposed to sing. The country music legend was apparently "suffering from breathing problems due to the high altitude and emphysema," according to an announcement, and briefly hospitalized."

If they're doing something fairly physical like athletic competition or dancing around on stage, then the altitude will affect them. However, Obama standing at a podium in a city he has visited several times in the past...I'm less likely to accept the altitude argument.

Jerry Tarkanian dealt with the attitude issue in the Final Four by telling his players, "The altitude only effects you OUTSIDE." They bought that.

I used to think altitude sickness was a joke..growing up here climbing 14ners. Then after living at a much lower altitude and traveling up to a mt town..I got altitude sickness..it's scary! Chest tightens..can't breath...dizziness..headache..confusion. Not fun! It's not funny or irritating to me.
