Gross. We teachers should be held to a higher standard than that. That little girl is lucky she even had a job when there are so many out there who would appreciate the chance at her position. Stop defending that idiot.

I agree with Jack. If student athletes are expected to maintain their image for the ability to participate in competition we should expect no less of the teachers and administrators who run the schools.

@Sheila you nailed, they are never going to be able to prove that she did anything illegal and the girl is already denying the whole thing. Its going to be a short investigation if they are smart and realize they have better things to do with their time.

Student/Athletes are disciplined for simply holding a solo cup in a picture on social media. Should teachers be held to a lower standard?

I actually have advice for the school district. If we punish teachers for the things found on social media, all we do is give angry students a potential tool for blackmail. Just imagine, a brat getting a D on an assignment and retaliating by creating a fake twitter account with photo-shopped pics on it. If it happened on school grounds, if there is a hint of illegal activity then, yes, suspend and look into it. If not, I wouldn't play into it at all.

I really don't see what the big deal is. Yeah its dumb to brag about smoking at work and all, but where do we draw the line with freedom of speech? Its not like she was fucking a student or getting them high or anything. Give her back her job and quite being such dicks, school district.

If you don't think teachers do just as many drugs as the rest of the community you're a bit out of touch with reality. It could have been way worse than smoking pot and talking about it on twitter. She could have been doing meth and just not talking about it instead... I would rather have an openly pot smoking teacher than a closet junkie or alcoholic or a meth head... These things happen all the time. Face reality. 

Immature, stoner skank.   The fact that someone stupid enough to put that on Twitter when they are a teacher and "role model" is also responsible for teaching kids makes me want to move to Nauru and raise my kids in a yurt.

I think the point that's being missed here is that if 9news hadn't made such a big deal of this, we wouldn't be talking about it today.  I'm more interested in the "anonymous tip" they received then about any of the details of what Crunk_Bear posted, and more interested as to why 9news was tipped off or why they decided to make such a big deal of this.  Once again media trys to tell us whats important/moral, and a scared group such as the Overland school responds in a cowardly way.

Let's fire her, and drug test the rest of the school staff as well. I bet it's a culture of evil! out them all!

I'm not a teacher, and I would not, or never would have, post these types pics on my fb or anywhere due to the fact that someone at my workplace could see them. It's called COMMON SENSE and MATURITY.

Depends...if she actually stated that she had it on school grounds then she should be fired for being an F'ing idiot, but if the only reason she is being persecuted is because of photos she had online or random comments she made about partying then it is complete bullshit and every single hypocrit teacher in that school who has ever had a drop of alcohol or smoked a cigarette should be drug tested and fired (even if they pass that drug test).

Hi Michael, I'm Shaun Gannaway; one of the students featured in the interview. As stated in the interview, we do not support "smoking weed", but the leaves are symbolic of our support for Ms. McKinney. We believe that what she does in her free time, be it partake in recreational cannabis or anything else, is her choice. While my friend and I personally do not partake, the point of #FreeCrunkBear is not to make a comment on Marijuana, or Marijuana law, or Marijuana law reform. We simply support freedom in a human being's personal/private life, and as long as it does not carry over into the classroom, we will continue to support that freedom.

Simply because a teacher smokes pot, does not make it okay for you to be so judgmental as to make a comment that teachers like her sleep with students. I had a teacher who had a husband and two kids who slept with a student, that comment is ignorant. Let her have a personal life, she is in her 20's, if she wants to post pictures on HER twitter page, why should she not be allowed to? It's 2013! It's time to start focusing on children's education and more real news that matters instead of twitter photos .. Priorities people!

Teachers smoke pot? agasstt!

So stupid. If she's good at her job, discriminating against her, just makes the school look stupid. Gonna sacrifice a good teacher out of jealousy and or pleasing jealous moms. Imagine the photos taken by teachers BEFORE the internet.

She's a teacher. She admitted to having weed on school property as someone else was being busted. This is the kind of young teacher that ends up sleeping with students. No one cares what she does in her private time, however, it's not private when she posts it on Twitter. It's time for everyone to realize that social media takes your private life public. You wouldn't want your doctor posting stuff like this, so why is it acceptable for a person that teaches your children math? It's time to realize that there are consequences to putting all your business on social media. She deserves what she got, I'd only for bringing weed in her car on school grounds....

The district may want to learn who broke the story to 9News. If it is a district employee, they should consider firing him or her for bullying and/or harassment. I'm going to bet that this isn't the first employee to suffer due to this kind of malicious gossip. I see it from time to time as a parent in the CCSD and I always speak up.  If we want to end bullying, we need to start ending the bullying of our teachers by so-called education professionals.   

Not only does this model bullying behavior for students to copy, this type of behavior puts the taxpayer at risk of paying out legal fees. I see potential issues as slander and/or wrongful termination. I don't want to pay for the malicious abuse of a bullying district employee.
