"Drinks With Dad" proposal dries up in Senate committee

Greg Brophy.
Raise a glass to the death of this year's dopiest bill -- so far. Senator Greg Brophy had proposed that parents be able to buy grown-up beverages at Colorado bars and restaurants for children over seventeen. But yesterday a Senate committee decided that Brophy's "Drinks With Dad" proposal was all wet.

Several vocal groups had opposed the measure, including the Colorado Fraternal Order of Police and the Colorado Restaurant Association, whose members would have been tasked with carding the new customers -- and in these days of complicated family relationships, ascertaining whether the adult at the table was the legal guardian or actual parent of the would-be drinker could almost require a DNA test or trip to Ancestry.com.

When he proposed the measure, Brophy -- whose website bills him as "husband, father, farmer" --had suggested that it would help parents how to teach their children to drink responsibly. But there's a far more logical place to do that:

At home.

From the Calhoun: Wake Up Call archive: "Free 3.2 beer! It's time to issue a last call for the archaic contrivance of low-alcohol beer."

Parents, how about instead you teach your children about a party favor that won't end up killing them?  Alcohol kills daily while cannabis has yet to kill anyone.

@DonkeyHotay So, that would have not happened had she been using alcohol instead of cannabis?  A mother who neglects her children is gonna neglect her children no matter the substance.  Cannabis didn't kill those kids, their mother's neglect did.  Do try to stay on point.

@kadargo ... so being a stoner mom resulted in a "pattern of neglect" ?

Noted.

@DonkeyHotayNo, she neglected her kids to GO get stoned and have sex.  Read the account you posted again.  Check out the first paragraph.  While you are at it, you just might comprehend that she had a pattern of neglect when it came to her kids.  Neglect killed her kids.

But if ya want to blame it on cannabis, go ahead.  We all know you are pissed off because legalization is ruining your caregiver business.  Your posts are nothing but sour grapes. We are all to blame which is why you spend so much time slamming us.  There are other ways of making a living.  Maybe it's time you look into those options.

She didn't kill her kids.  Neglect killed her kids.  Read the account you posted.

Had she and her friend instead simply gone for a hike, then the hike would be to blame?

Neglect is neglect, yet people like you have no problem blaming the evil weed.  Nice try.

@kadargo ... yet she wasn't drunk on alcohol when she killed her kids, she was STONED on marijuana.

Go figure.
