Glenn DeCarlo, alleged schmuck, tries to shoot housemate, instead hits son -- twice

The Schmuck of the Week Board of Directors at Westword want to make one thing clear: We don't recommend that you shoot anyone. And we really, really, really advise against doing so when one of your family members is in the line of fire -- which appears to be what happened in the case of Glenn DeCarlo, who allegedly shot his son by accident. Twice.

According to the Colorado Springs Gazette, DeCarlo, 45, had been sharing his Black Forest area home, located on the 8700 block of Shipman Lane, with one Matthew Fancher, a mutual friend of him and his adult son, 22-year-old Anthony DeCarlo.

Maybe "former friend" is the more appropriate term, though. The elder DeCarlo reportedly told Fancher to hit the highway -- and he appears to have been mighty serious about it. When Fancher turned up at the house to get his stuff, at the unusal hour of 1 a.m. on Wednesday, January 9, authorities believe Glenn grabbed a gat and opened fire.

Problem is, Anthony was the one who wound up eating lead.

The two gunshots that struck Anthony aren't thought to be life-threatening. However, they were a threat to Glenn DeCarlo's freedom. He was busted on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault. A $50,000 bond has also been issued in his name.

Granted, Glenn would be in even greater risk of long-term imprisonment if his aim had been better...so maybe things worked out for the best after all.

Here's a larger look at DeCarlo's mug shot.

Thank you a$$hole. Give the anti-gun cowd more reasons to want to restrict/ban them. You are a douche of epic proportions. I hope you get the book thrown at you right between the eyes.

... more American Gun MADNESS!

Yet another "Law Abiding Gun Owner" ... right up to the moment they aren't ...

Cops do it all the time, and they don't go to jail. Hell, they even go into the wrong house and shoot people, even children with toy guns. This guy is an idiot though, don't get me wrong, anyone who doesn't clear their line of sight before firing should be arrested, including cops.

Another Donkey making up addition facts. Where does it say he was a legal gun owner? It doesn't and with the 3rd grade level of reporting from Westword we don't know if it was a legal gun or not.

@Monkey  ... maybe he can work as one of those NRA proposed Armed Guards at your kid's school ....

@chrisestus In fact, there's plenty of indication that he's NOT "law-abiding." He clearly broke laws. Reading is fundamental, Donk.

@chrisestus ... if you've got ANY evidence he wasn't, then post it you piss-pant gun loon.

@DonkeyHotay  That is a scary thought to me too. We don't need to ban guns, and we don't need to become a police state with armed guards  in the name of safety. I say lock the kids up in prison type schools, bullet proof glass, video surveillance and automatic locking steel doors. Physically teach them that when people surrender their rights for safety, everyone is treated like a prisoner, instead of just criminals..

@Cognitive_Dissident @chrisestus

So exactly what laws was he convicted of breaking before he pulled the trigger.

Be specific, and cite your evidence.

Do you have any evidence he WAS?
