....And with all the accidental shootings noted below, accidental death by firearms is only 0.03% of all accidental deaths. You are more likely to accidentally die from water or fire than you are from firearms.

@Monkey ... BTW, the shootings below were not "accidental" ... every one of them was a DELIBERATE pull of the trigger -- of a "legal" firearm owned by a "law abiding gun owner" and deliberately aimed at another human being.

@Monkey  ... so focus on the DELIBERATE DEATHS, MURDERS and Mayhem by firearms.

*** Gun deaths in America projected to soon top car fatalities ***

Guns and cars have long been among the leading causes of non-medical deaths in the U.S. By 2015, firearm fatalities will probably exceed traffic fatalities for the first time, based on data compiled by Bloomberg.

While motor-vehicle deaths dropped 22 percent from 2005 to 2010, gun fatalities are rising again after a low point in 2000, according to the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Shooting deaths in 2015 will probably rise to almost 33,000, and those related to autos will decline to about 32,000, based on the 10-year average trend.

Jared Laughner and James Holmes were "Law Abiding Gun Owners" ...

... right up to the moment they pulled the trigger.

Ban gun-free zones! You don't have to have guns, just don't advertise to the public that there are no guns there. Schools became popular targets for young mass murderers in the mid 1990s, around the time that the Gun Free School Zones act of 1994 was enacted. Why do we want to make schools a more attractive target for disturbed youth who want to end their own lives with a dramatic killing spree? Holmes didn't chose the theatre closest to his home, he chose the only one where people were not allowed to bring their gun inside. Sometimes just the threat of a gun is a deterrent, but self proclaimed gun-free zones have been proven to encourage gun violence.

Too bad JFK didn't have armed guards, he might still be alive today. Oh, wait...

Teachers, cops, and school staff can go nuts, too, and not everyone shows signs of mental illness before they snap.  One of my teachers killed her own two kids a while back.  You'd give someone like THAT a firearm in a classroom full of children?  Brilliant!

@BackOffImStarving, if the teacher is going to go crazy and shoot up a school, do you think the current gun-free-campus laws are going to stop him?

@BackOffImStarving "Speaking of fantasy land, where does one go to be surrounded by people with perfect aim, no mental illness, and criminals who are reasonable enough to be deterred by the possibility of a victim carrying a gun?"

Any Hollywood Movie staring Tom Cruise or Arnold Schwarzenegger ...

... where an imaginary hero with a pistol can outshoot multiple assailants with automatic weapons.

The delusional gun-loon fuckwits think they live in the same fantasy land of omniscient foreshadowing, perfect multi-angle vision and slow-motion replay and do-overs.

@BackOffImStarving Advocating that a group of people do it on your behalf is the same thing, only shows more cowardice, because you aren't willing to do the deed yourself. Collectivists like you are the reason republic never had a chance.

@Cognitive_Dissident @BackOffImStarving Funny, I've never disarmed anyone.  I've never done the killing, yet you spout your rhetoric about the blood being on MY hands?  Why so defensive?  I ain't dat derr gubment tryin' to git mah hands on ur piece.  When did you go cuckoo for Cocoapuffs?

Cognitive_Dissident

@BackOffImStarving You're the one driven from fear, and you're demonstrating it right now. The blood is on the hands of the people like you who disarmed people, creating an attractive nuisance for nuts. It's not about arming "everyone." It's about not disarming peaceful people who have no history of violence. The blood is never on my hands, because I did not do the killing, nor did I make them victims--people like YOU did.

@Cognitive_Dissident @BackOffImStarving "You can come up with all kinds of scenarios that have never happened before (like a teacher shooting a child, which he's more than capable of doing today)..."  Arm everyone and wait.  It'll happen and you'll be left with no alternative other than to blame the liberal media or some shit for the blood on YOUR hands.

Cognitive_Dissident

@BackOffImStarving I'm not sure, but it sounds like you just made that up. The reality right now is that any nut job with or without permission can do whatever he wants to a classroom full of unsuspecting children. This allows people who have already demonstrated a level of trust (because they're allowed in the school legally) to assert a measure of self-defense. You can come up with all kinds of scenarios that have never happened before (like a teacher shooting a child, which he's more than capable of doing today) but you still can't indicate what's actually WRONG with it.

As for "reasonable" enough to be deterred by a gun--it just requires the "reasonable" fear that the recent mall shooter had when HE was confronted with an armed would-be victim. The real world beats your fantasy land every time.

@BackOffImStarving  I never stated nor implied that bureaucrats should be given a single weapon, nor did I state or imply that they should be the only ones with their right to carry protected.

Your willingness to choose fantasy land for yourself is one thing. Your willingness to choose fantasy land for the murdered children amounts to blood on your hands for supporting their victimization.

@Cognitive_Dissident Well, if giving guns to a bunch of underpaid, overworked state employees makes it so that you can stop fingering your feed ramp to get to sleep at night, then I'd choose the blue pill.

No! What about the theaters, malls or any other public place? No bill or law is going to help. More guns or less guns, there are still mentally ill people that will get a hold of guns no matter what we do. Lets start with more research on these people and why they do what they do. What are warning signs we can all watch for?
