The Press Democrat said marijuana has been at the center of 22 killings in the North Coast area of California in the past decade, with seven of those taking place in Sonoma County.

"Most of our violent crime is related to marijuana, the theft of marijuana, the growing of marijuana," O'Leary told the Press Democrat.

Boulder County Chief Trial Deputy District Attorney Ken Kupfner said he could not say whether Klarkowski was the subject of an active investigation here.

However, he has seen a number of cases in which defendants were bringing large quantities of marijuana from California to Colorado, despite the widespread availability of the drug here.

"In a number of large-scale investigations we've conducted, there is a surprising amount of marijuana being brought in from California, and that is because there is a significant price difference," Kupfner said, speaking generally and not about the possible motives of Klarkowski and Lewin.

"It is much cheaper in California, so for people looking to make a profit, they are buying it in California and bringing it to Colorado."

As it was so close in vote already, and since things are changing more quickly now, the Oregon (Paul Stanford) model basic may be the future, including in Oregon next vote.

Wait wasn´t the BATF the ones who were running guns to gangs in Mexico under opperation Fast and Furious? Yeah let´s add the huge budget from the DEA´s domestic marijuana budger to the new BATMF so we have two types of law enforcemnt for the war on drugs. The DEA for everything everywhere and the BATMF for marijuana in the United States. Oh and let´s give some more power to the Secetary of Tresuary, Tim Geithner. Progress is being made and as much as you can't stand that it's not YOUR progress, it is real progress. Be happy that this is turning into a legitimate conversation because ten years ago this type of bill would have been mocked and laughed out of government. I admire your revolutionary ways, but come on back to what is actually possible. Would you prefer that nothing changes and we go back to the way things were fifteen years ago just because it's not perfect? If you actually gave half a shit about the cause you would understand that change doesn't happen overnight, but slow, steady progress is better than nothing. Unless you are a black market drug dealer who is fearing for your livelihood. In that case, I could see your point...

@IdealistsIdiots @CoreyDonahue Somehow, more regulation doesn't seem like progress. It's said that perfect is the enemy of good, but I think constipatedly regulated is the enemy of free.

Keep in mind that alcohol, tobacco, firearms and pharma are hopelessly entwined in stupendously byzantine regulations. I know this, having written reports to satisfy BATFE and the FDA. There are times when less is more. When it involves the state, it's just about always one of those times.
