After establishing this link to online modeling sites, 7News reached out to Model Mayhem, which provided the following statement:
Model Mayhem strongly believes that safety should be top of mind when doing anything online. Because there are scams on the Internet, Model Mayhem tries to educate users about scams and how to avoid them. The site offers detailed safety advice to help members understand what to look for when they are contacted by others.... The site also has a feedback mechanism called 'Contact a Moderator' that allows any member to let site moderators know of any suspicious activity they encounter. Moderators view and respond to each and every inquiry.
The station notes that Model Mayhem has received an "F" grade from the Better Business Bureau.

If you have any information about Furlong's whereabouts, e-mail TIPS@nwcave.org.

*** Pimps Hit Social Networks to Recruit Naive Teenagers ***

http://money.cnn.com/2013/02/27/technology/social/pimps-social-networks/index.html

It started with a Facebook "friend" request.

"I was just, 'oh, he's cute, I'll accept him,'" a 22-year-old called "Nina" recalls.

She was 18 at the time, and didn't imagine that clicking "accept" would start her on a path to four years of prostitution across the country. "Nina" is a pseudonym; CNNMoney agreed to change the names of the victims in this article to protect their privacy.

Upper middle-class and college-bound, Nina had her plans derailed in her senior year of high school after her mother was sentenced to two years in prison for financial crimes. Lonely and looking online for male attention, she started messaging back and forth with a man who said he was falling for her. They talked about trips they'd take together as a couple, and about marriage, maybe kids.

"He sold me the biggest dream in the world," she says. "I thought he really did like me and we were going to live this fairy-tale life together."

They exchanged online messages for about a month. That September, while Nina's friends went off to college, she traveled the two and half hours from home to meet her Facebook beau in person.

The fairy tale ended fast. Almost immediately after she arrived in Seattle, he dropped her off on a street where prostitutes troll for customers and told her she was going to "catch dates."

Model Mayhem, though not intentionally so, is the middle man between young women with big, naive dreams and predators willing to take advantage. A  browse through their "model" pages and you will see 3/4 of the pictures are young, half naked women.  Model Mayhem is not an agency; they don't set up appointments, they don't track shoots and locations, they do no background checks, no verifications of the legitimacy of photographers. Apparently a predator has caught on to these facts and these models haven't.

I hope the detectives from different counties are sharing all collected information . Implying the possibility we are facing a 'Serial Killer' . Should this be correct, our depts are notorious for questionable tactics & means acquiring information from ANY individual . R.P.White went on killing for years RIGHT UNDER THEIR FACES !!! Had he not turned himself in,  they hadn't a clue !!!

We need "Wheels & the Legman" !  'American Dad'

Not much difference ....

maybe instead of giving kids tickets for smoking ciggs , or people sleeping in the city limits at night ....officers could investigate the real crimes and People would not be scared to walk outside without a van kidnapping them or their children.

This is a terrible Catch-22. In one hand, one wants to be noticed, particularly an up and coming model. In the other hand, keeping things public, out in cyberspace, only ramps up the "creeper" or "lurker" potential for him or her.

@Dave Shuck Very interesting post, Dave. We're going to make it an upcoming Comment of the Day. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
