Photos: Top ten scariest out-of-state license plates to see in a snowstorm

Number 2: Montana

Unlike residents from many of the states above, Montanans have experience driving in snow -- but plenty of them think that knowledge makes them immune from every physical law, including the one that pertains to an SUV not stopping on a dime on black ice. Escalades can be fun, but not when they're turning your Kia into a speed bump.

Number 1: Texas

The aggro-driving that typifies Texans can be a pain in the ass on nice days. When the snow's falling, it turns into terror behind the wheel, Lone Star-style. If you spot a car with these plates in your rear-view mirror, you'll probably be seeing red-and-blue flashing lights a few minutes later.

Haha I have a rental car that has Texas plates, maybe it will keep the crazy drivers far away from me.

Rain, Snow, or Shine, how did everyone forget about MASSACHUSETTS DRIVERS? It's only the state's most infamous trait!!! (I learned how to drive in MA, so I'm not sure I can claim to be much better LOL)

... Someone made a serious mistake for forgetting about MASSACHUSETTS DRIVERS!!!

I guess I should be happy I'm from Colorado, and live in Northern California?

Not sure why it must be out of state drivers. More often then not it's some idiot with a Colorado plate I have issues with. Can we address the lack of merging traffic knowledge??? Dry, wet, snow, rain, light, dark... Can any one freaking merge properly in this state? Lets get the fundamentals figured out first.

I'm from Texas, haven't had an accident in the snow, and have never been in an accident that was ruled my fault.I have had a grand total of 0 speeding tickets in many years. To be quite honest the worst drivers I know, snow or not, are native Coloradans.

Ha!!! Can I help start the Texas flame war again?!! It was fun last time!

mostly true but the cool thing is now they all get scared of these wee snowstorms and stay home . yay! humphh came from the west side in '80's lived for years at 9700 with 75 yard long dirt incline drive, never got stuck, had an accident or caused one, did prevent many, would pass by 4x4s in a ditch whilst in my rear wheel drive sportscar. its about whomevers behind the wheel pretty much.

You all are delusional... I  have never seen a place where "tail gate driving" is so prevalent. Ie:

lots of wrecked cars rear ended after a snow storm.. as for your list?   DUH ?  Hawaii, never snows?

Texas?   c'mon...  New York and NJ??  granted  NJ has bad drivers, i lived there, but NJ against Hawaii in the snow?   You are kidding?

The New Yorker bit is over reaching. Many of us in the real NYS are some of the best snow drivers in the United States. The locust hoards of New York City on the other hand can't drive for shit regardless of the weather conditions.

pretty much any state with no snow seasonally. not sure why Montana would be on the list. but totally agree with texas and california

The license plates don't mean a thing. The worst drivers out here are the transplants who came from states that receive little snow. The Texans and Californians are among them. They could have lived here long enough to obtain Colorado plates but that doesn't mean that they are capable of driving safely in Colorado weather.

@Candie Bernard You make a good point, Candie. Thanks for the post. We're going to make it an upcoming Comment of the Day. Much appreciated.

Being on Fire-Rescue. The most common tag to go to assist in Kansas during winter storms around here is Colorado plates. "Lets set the cruise on our 4x4 at 70 it will be ok"

There are people from everywhere that don't drive well in snow, even those born and raised in Colo. The article is stupid.

Every state, with the exception of New York/New England, Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin. The snow and ice don't go away in 2 days..

#1 Texas! That's true everywhere in any weather. I avoid Texas plates as much as i can. At least that's where i learned to drive, so i know what to expect from them. KS probably should have made the top 5. They just give kids keys and a license on their 14th birthday and let them loose on the roads.

Montana at #2?  Seriously?  You lose any cred when you talk about someone from Montana driving an Escalade because there are probably 5 of them in the entire state (you probably meant a Suburban which is the "luxury" car of choice in MT but truly an F150's or any other truck is what you normally encounter in these parts).  Having lived in both CO (Denver) and MT (Billings) for a number of years I will take MT drivers over CO drives any day of the week.  We actually do know how to drive in the snow...

You forgot to put Colorado drivers at the top of the list.

I am pretty sure Colorado should be the #1 license plate to be scared of in the snow considering everyone that lives here is from Texas and California and still haven't learned how to drive.

Worst drivers on the road are Subaru's with "old-school" Colorado license plates. By far!!

Wendy Dennie

Laurence is absolutely correct...Colorado drivers suck. Stop blaming your idiocy on all the other states and take a good hard look in the mirror. You're the problem, Colorado drivers

John S. Schafluetzel

Miles: it's not hate so much as a very generalized observation of driving attitudes. Some are just more incompatible than others. If it makes everybody feel any better, the worst driving I've ever seen is in DC. Had a few "come to God"moments out there. They didn't make my list simply because you don't see nearly so many of them out here.

John S. Schafluetzel

Angelle: are you always such a hypocrite when you get butthurt? I point out the hypocrisy of your first statement. Then you try to defend your hypocrisy as not as not as harmful after looking the post immediately prior that called us all "Coloradonative assholes." Yes, it would be wrong to assume all drivers from a certain state are bad drivers, not particularly harmful as you claim, but wrong. Nobody's doing that. Put on your big girl pants and realize that we are aware we are making generalizations and that they don't apply to everyone. The post asked a question and we answered with our own general observances. Everybody but you and Ronnie seem to grasp that these are not hard rules.

Why do people from Colorado hate Texans so much?

@Miles Charlesworth  We don't,, just a few of the arrogant, un-educated ones
