Big photos, video below.
The Amendment 64 task force recommended allowing out of staters to buy cannabis in Colorado -- and if the legislature agrees, the decision would open the door to pot tourism.

But the folks behind a company called My 420 Tours aren't waiting for lawmakers to sign off. They're actively promoting an April 17-23 vacation package they're calling World Cannabis Week, replete with events aplenty to captivate and entertain travelers with a taste for ganja.

Matt Brown, one of the principals behind My 420 Tours, will be familiar to longtime members of the marijuana community. He first stepped into the spotlight in 2009 as the executive director of Coloradans for Marijuana Regulation (CMMR), a business group that lobbied for legislation to empower the MMJ industry.

As such, he was a key player during the regulatory bill's progress through the Colorado general assembly, and he celebrated its passage in May 2010. But right around the moment of victory, CMMR imploded amid charges, counter-charges, backbiting and bad blood, leaving Brown on the outside looking in. The organization ultimately folded in February 2011, with Brown's successor, Betty Aldworth, moving on to become communications director for the Amendment 64 campaign.

As for Brown, he says he was "hired by the group that bought Full Spectrum Labs. My job was to figure out the science and make products. But by early 2011, we realized that no matter how much state licensing existed, federal repercussions to do research were too severe" -- so Brown and company relocated to Canada, where such testing is allowed.

Over the next year-plus, Brown worked for that firm, followed by "another natural health-products company." But the passage of Amendment 64 called him back to Colorado. "It opened up a lot of exciting possibilities," he notes -- among them My 420 Tours and World Cannabis Week.

welcome to world cannabis week image.jpg
"It's intended for people from out of state, and particularly on the East Coast, who don't have any idea of what's really going on here beyond what they've seen in the news," Brown says. "They're blown away by what Colorado is doing, but they don't know how to experience it."

How's the tour package work?

'MARIJUANA: THE MUSICAL" is a new musical-comedy about the social, medical, and spiritual attributes of cannabis: MP3 and CD's NOW AVAILABLE FOR SALE ON AMAZON, iTUNES, CD BABY, and GOOGLE MUSIC STORE. "Sometimes the truth is hard to tell. Especially if it's about a drug called Marijuana. I believe Len Richmond and Collin Ozcan have done it here. Well Done! Respects!" - BRIAN MAY OF QUEEN. "An important new musical about the medical and social world of weed. Big Pharma watch out. Big Ganja is coming and it cures!" -LILY TOMLIN.  "Discover the incredible extraterrestrial origins of cannabis in this musical comedy that follows a pair of pot-loving aliens who introduce the plant to planet Earth 60 million years ago, and continually return to encourage its use among artists and musicians. After revealing the creative powers of the mystical plant to Parisian artists of the 19th Century and New Orleans jazz musicians of the 1930's, the bleary-eyed interplanetary visitors stage a narrow escape from a DEA raid on a popular medical marijuana dispensary, and take a lucky handful of humans back to their home world of "Planet Cannabis", where hemp is used for every purpose under the sun, war is obsolete, and the environment is completely free of pollutants." ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Amendment 64 is going to be an amazing benefit to Colorado's economy... in so many ways. Just wait until we expand these events to accomodate more people, open up retail shops and start growing and manufacturing hemp! Jobs, jobs, job$$$$$

They make their money on the tours and since it's legal atm under amend 64 to GIVE 21+ age adults marijuana, that's how they get around everything as the law currently stands. So know what's the real deal before you start calling ppl names, they are making a pretty penny doing this, why do you think the high times cannabis cup sold out so quickly? And ppl are trying to sell tix to the cup on craigslist for $350-500 PER PERSON... when VI{P tix were nowhere near that cost.

I know a looooooooooot of people who would take this tour. Hell, I have friends begging me to organize something similar for them. Pot tourism is coming to Colorado, and unless they impose draconian regulations over it (which isn't too unlikely, seeing the way thing have been going lately), there's not much people can do to combat that fact.

*** Colorado Marijuana Dispensary Owner Sentenced in Federal Court ***

A federal judge sentenced a man who pleaded guilty to operating an illegal marijuana grow house to time served, setting conditions that include home detention while issuing a sharp reminder that the drug remains illegal under federal law.

Hai Manh Do, 46, operated Earth's Medicine, a dispensary at 74 N. Federal Blvd.

The case is a reminder that marijuana remains illegal under federal law despite Colorado residents' vote to legalize it, U.S. District Judge Robert Blackburn said Wednesday.

"This case makes it clear that federal drug laws are not moribund even in the state of Colorado."

Blackburn also required Do to serve six months of home detention under electronic monitoring and pay a fine of $2,500.

Do provided substantial assistance to prosecutors in the case and accepted responsibility for his actions, Blackburn said. His brother, Ha Manh Do, 49, and Richard Crosse, 51, were also involved and were sentenced earlier in March.

Both received time served and supervised release with conditions. Ha Do is required to spend six months in a community corrections facility followed by 12 months in-home detention, and Cross has to serve three months in a community corrections facility and six months of home detention.

Hai Do worked at the dispensary in the evenings, and he was listed as an owner because his brother, who really owned the facility, had other business interests and didn't want them compromised by a link to a pot operation, Hai Do's lawyer Stephen Alonzi told Blackburn.

"I relied on my brother and I trusted him and believed everything was done right," Hai Do said.

*** Colorado Father and Son busted on I-80 for pot ***

Robert S. Maltz, 57 and Marcus J. Maltz, 28, both from Idaho Springs, Colo. were arrested Friday for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

The father and son were stopped at 1:20 p.m. on I-80 for speeding at mile marker 195, about 17 miles east of North Platte.

Trooper J.J. Connelly found in four packages of pot, weighing a total of 3.6 pounds in the spare tire well of the car - a 2013 Dodge Dart.

The pair were traveling east. They had rented the car in Colorado and were headed to the Chicago area, Connelly said.

Connelly said law officers suspect that a large quantity of pot is coming out of Colorado from the medical dispensary process, either from growers or the back doors of dispensaries, which are legal in Colorado. Dealers look to illegally sell it in other parts of the country.

Maybe you should focus more on the closed door conversations the Federal Government is having with Nixonlooper regarding A64.

I believe there will be many start-up tourism outfits such as this, eventually. Colorado has it all; hiking, hunting, scenery, brew pubs, mj, gambling, shopping...you name it and we have it. All those sweet, sweet tourism dollars just waiting to be spent in Colorado because of the entire package. This is going to be good.

** Ban on tourists visiting Dutch cannabis cafes **

Foreign visitors will be banned from cannabis-selling coffee shops in southern Netherlands to combat anti-social behaviour among tourists.

The Dutch justice ministry announced the ban after a consultation period.

Under the new policy licenced coffee shops will be considered private clubs with a maximum of 2,000 members limited to Dutch residents who are older than 18 and carry a co-called 'dope card'.

The policy aims to cut down nocturnal disturbances and the number of drug pushers said to cater to the millions of foreign tourists who visit the Netherlands to take advantage of its relaxed marijuana laws.

There are about 220 coffee shops in Amsterdam.

Several are located in the red light district, where prostitution is also legal.

@Yankee  Your an idiot....for real. How many raids have happened in Colorado since HB1284? ZERO How much has cannabis blossomed into a legitimate industry? HUGE. Mr Yankee... thank god it wasn't you in charge of making sure cannabis would be legalized in Colorado... Matt Brown was only one of many SMART people that made things happen. It's idiots like you that continue to piss off the people that pass our laws and regulations making legalization and regulation harder for everyone. Get a clue.

@Colo411 @Yankee Don't you just love it when someone starts a post with "Your an idiot?"

Such a person does not exactly grab the intellectual high ground, and I am usually tempted to just skip the post. I mean, if you can't tell the difference between a possessive form and a contraction when you're attempting to insult someone's intelligence, you might not compare in any flattering way at all.

@Colo411 Matt Brown is responsible for the DEA not raiding any Colorado dispensaries? Really? You are clueless.

@DonkeyHotay He had his nose so far up Chris Romer's ass during the HB1284 proceedings, promoting for his small group he is responsible for much of the stupidity and over-regulation of 1284 it got completely overdone. He and Ralph Stanley and Wonda did so much damage! and now for 64, they are going to try to copy the failure. All that said, I am still glad we have something more workable than most everywhere else. It's a shame Matt wasn't running a tour boat back then, we'd all be better off.

@instntkrma ... btw, the UNREGULATED markets of California and Oregon -- with functional plant / weight allowances of up to 24 (twenty four) ounces per patient, and 24 plants per patient, are serving far more users with far better pot at prices that are a thousand dollars less per pound than Colorado ... and not squandering MILLIONS of $$ of what is inevitably patient money on incompetent greedy big government bureaucrat regulators.

hth.

@instntkrma ... Matt Brownnose ...

and Ralph's brother Josh Snitchley, who bragged to state lawmakers that he called the cops on private caregivers / vendors who stopped by his dispensary back in the pre-HB1284 days when that was the normal method of product acquisition for many dispensaries.

It's funny that when you bother to extract your cranium from your rectum, you and I both see the same obvious facts about this industry and the disaster it's become from self-serving pecuniary exploitation by greedy profiteers, and myopic self-defeating surrender by the users in a vain quest for paternal "legitimization".
