Update: We've been reporting about a fatal stabbing on a Number 15 RTD bus near Federal and Colfax yesterday afternoon.

A short time ago, the Denver Police Department revealed that Isaiah Moreno, twenty, had been arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder. Now, the Denver coroner's office has identified the victim: Estevan Ruiz, age 39. The cause of death is listed as a "stab wound to the neck." Continue to see our previous coverage, including a recently released photo of Moreno.

Update, 12:21 p.m. April 10: As we reported earlier today, a man was stabbed to death on the Number 16 RTD bus near a stop at Colfax and Federal.

At this writing, the Denver coroner's office has not yet released the name of the victim in the attack. But the Denver Police Department has announced an arrest in the case. Twenty year old Isaiah Moreno is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder.

Look below to see a larger version of Moreno's booking photo, followed by our previous coverage.

Original post, 5:51 a.m. April 10: Last year, the stabbing of Aaron Bishop on an RTD bus in Aurora -- for which the man behind the knife, Michael Walker, was ultimately not charged -- became the first death on an RTD bus in a decade. Unfortunately, though, far fewer than ten years passed before the next one came along.

A thus-far unidentified man died as a result of a stabbing yesterday on a Number 16 bus. Details and video below.

At 2:46 p.m. yesterday, according to the Denver Police Department, officers responded to a park and ride near Federal Boulevard and Colfax, not far from Sports Authority Field at Mile High, on a report of a stabbing.

Upon their arrival, they found a man with what's described as an apparent knife wound. He was rushed to Denver Health, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The crime scene.
Neither the man's name nor his official cause of death has been released by the Denver coroner's office at this writing. However, 9News reports that the man was stabbed in the neck following a scuffle on the bus.

Witnesses said a pool of blood collected under the seat nearest where the stabbing took place. Here's a look at it:

The seat near where the stabbing took place.
After the attack, the driver stopped the bus and ordered everyone off -- and it appears that the person who wielded the blade managed to slip out with the others prior to making his escape.

The station says a person was subsequently taken into custody for questioning, but the DPD's updated release, issued just shy of 10 p.m., makes no mention of such an action, and neither does it name a suspect.

Investigators think additional witnesses to the crime may still be out there. With that in mind, they encourage anyone who saw what happened or has additional details to contact Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867). A reward of up to $2,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and charge.

How many passengers and bus drivers have to get assaulted, maimed or killed before RTD puts 2 armed security/police officers on their "Troubled Routes" like the 0,15 and the 16. Cameras only capture the violence on film. They do nothing to help the passenger while they are being victimized.

No you people are missing the point here.  Let this guy convince other unknowing people how terrible it is, especially Californians.  Whats more important some ranking, or wide open spaces?  I know my answer.  Just for the record sometimes I wish Denver was more bland so I could get more work done.

Yes, almost weekly!!! This is ultimately RTD's fault. There is NEVER security personnel on any bus except for an army of Wackenhut guards trying to catch fare skippers on the light rail. The light rail is not as dangerous as lines #15, #16, and #31 but you won't see any security on the most dangerous lines. I have seen this incident almost occur weekly and I am surprised it hasn't happened more often. The lack of civility, the alcohol abuse, the mentally ill not having anywhere to go, the lack of security and you have a witches' brew of trouble.

True that, the 16 bus is the sketchiest bus I have taken. Ever! I've taken most of the buses around here and that one was the only one I ever thought something crazy was gonna go down.

@gemimz28 look you z28 that's how much you knew him and how blind your hatred to illegals has you. regardless of how he looked what cloths he wore or the color of skin he had,, That "illegal" you wrote about, he must've not been born in Colorado and he was no angels but he was born in the of  "City of Angels". Oh by the way! so was his daughter Katalina. My niece. So he was "a million to one" all American, perhaps more than you. I pray that  what happened to my cousin in that terrible cold and sad day never happens to anyone in your family or to you. God bless you gemimz28..

*** Armed man stabbed at Party ***

An armed man who showed up at a neighbor’s house in Pacific Beach early Saturday to complain about a loud party was stabbed by one of the revelers, police said.

The 28-year-old unidentified stabbing victim was taken to a hospital about 1:30 a.m. The man’s injuries are not considered life-threatening, San Diego police said.

After taking away his gun, someone at the party on Jewell Street near Hornblend Street stabbed the neighbor in his upper body.

LOL!

What exactly would a drunk guy with a gun being attacked by a dozen bikers have anything to do with a guy being attacked by one guy with a knife?  The fact is  that had this guy had a gun he would have had a much better chance of protecting himself than he did.

JimTom
JimTom topcommenter

So if the guy that got stabbed had been carrying a gun there is no chance he would still be alive?
