Raven Furlong, missing teen, found -- but she refuses to return home to her family

Earlier this year, we told you about the search for Raven Furlong, a missing seventeen-year-old from Aurora. Like Kara Nichols, nineteen, and Kelsie Jean Schelling, 21, two other women whose whereabouts remain unknown, she had a profile on a modeling-related website. Furlong's car was found in L.A. last month -- and now, police say they've made contact with her. But because she's turned eighteen, she doesn't have to return home, and declined to do so, even though her mother fears she's in danger. Photos, video and details below.

Here are the details Furlong shared about herself on the website Model Mayhem:

The Basics:
located in Denver/Aurora
will travel if expenses are considered
My hair is short and pink right now, but it changes a few times a year.
no tattoos or piercings except my earlobes and a star on my wrist, but I am interested in alternative modeling, and I have tattoos on the way (shoulder & rib piece).
My ethnicity is not "other". :) I am European (Irish, French, Swiss, German) and Native American.
I love to do make-up and art.

She added:
A bit more about me:
I'm pretty much a newb, but I believe I have great potential.
I'm looking to build my portfolio, and I want to explore many different types/styles of modeling.
Furlong's loved ones coordinated a search for her through the Help Find Raven Cassidy Furlong Facebook page, and this past month, her car was found in the Los Angeles area. In it were a number of items that concerned Furlong's mom, Tonja Mahaffey, including a pair of men's shoes:

But while area police continued their search, they noted a potential rub: At the time the car was found, Raven was about to turn eighteen. If she was found after that point and didn't want to return to Colorado with her parents, she'd be within her legal rights as an adult.

And that's precisely what happened.

This skank is still news?

What's with the bizarre anti abortion sentiment in this thread? A local family is crazy worried about their born and living daughter.

I think you should be giving all your attention to the trial of Dr. Kermit Gosnell! I think more people would care about the cut spinal cords of 30 week live birth babies than this flake you are giving time to.

She had an opportunity to depart, accompanied by a Sheriff's deputy, and opted not to. Her choice.

I think she's naive but they want to give the morning after pill to 13 years olds without parents knowing so what the hell do I know!

she is an adult now, so she can do what she wants. Doesn't matter what we or her parents think. If the police thought she was in harm they would have done something.

Jeez Louise! Finally, a young adult wanting to make it on their own, instead of mooching off of mom and dad for the next 15 years. This girl should be commended for choosing self reliance and independence, maybe the rest of you permanently dependent kids can learn from this.

I'm relieved she was found alive .

Maturity SUCKS when NOT prepared !

I have suspicion that there is more to this story than her parents are letting on, like she's had drug problems, an older boyfriend, problems at home, etc.  At very least, her parents should be elated that she alive, because this could have had a very different outcome.

She may be confused about what love is. She is getting attention (the wrong kind), she may be stubborn, or she could be held against her will. the things a woman will do when they allow their feelings to get in the way is amazing. I say let her be but let her know she has an option to come home or to another safe place if need be.

I'm friends with one of her former teachers and she's been pushing this story hard. It sounds like over 18 or no, this girl has been emotionally damaged and needs stability.

Why is this still a news piece? This girl obviously wants to be left alone from her parents so she can pursue her porn career. Now that she's 18 these's not much to say. Her parents must be devastated.

@Todd Miller except that after the police themselves injured her by ripping out her earring ,they released her so they would not have to foot the bill for medical attention! Well, technically, I guess that IS 'doing something'

@SeizeTheDay The entire family is very thankful to know that she is alive, which is more than a lot of ' missing' families have.

Do tell.

@DonkeyHotay I know.  I'm not saying her mom shouldn't be worried, but at this point, there is nothing she can do about it.
