Forecasters throughout the city spent much of yesterday readying Denverites for Snowpacalyse, Snowmagedon, Snowcastrophe, Snowlocaust -- hence, a rash of school closures announced last night rather than this morning. Yet thus far, in the metro area at least, the massive snow totals we were led to expect haven't materialized. That doesn't mean things can't get worse, though. Look below to see the latest Colorado Department of Transportation update on road conditions, accompanied by a handful of storm clips shared by citizens of YouTube Nation.

Colorado Department of Transportation update:

CDOT crews across most of the state are on full snow shift, working around the clock until the highways are clear of snow and ice. In the Denver metro area, there are 75 plows working and another 300 plows are working on the front range and eastern plains. Along the I-70 west corridor there are 30 plows from C-470 to Vail Pass.

With the storm starting with rain and temperatures quickly dropping, there are icy spots underneath the snow pack, especially on bridges, overpasses and ramps. Crews are applying solid and liquid deicers. The forecast is calling for snow through the day and into the early evening hours.

Current highway closures:

US 6 over Loveland Pass
State Highway 71 between Brush and Nebraska

Motorists are strongly encouraged to call 511 or visit www.cotrip.org for current road condition information.

Not too bad - I live near 6th and Sheridan - only about 3 inches of snow here. I am working from home so I haven't been out on the roads.

Perhaps the media should stop calling things "epic" until it's warranted.

No snow in Colorado Springs so far, and the wind has died down quite a bit.
