Video: SUV crashes through West Gill Place home
What were you doing around 6 a.m. this morning? Sleeping? Rubbing your eyes? Hoping that morning cup of coffee would get your heart started?
Photos, video below.
For the person living in a residence on the 5900 block of West Gill Place, the answer was, "Dealing with the SUV that drove into my house" -- a drag whether conscious, unconscious or somewhere in between.
Here's a photo from the scene, supplied by the Denver Police Department.
As you can see, the tow truck had already arrived when the pic was taken.
After getting the address for the incident, we plugged it into Google Maps to get a look at the place pre-crash. Here's a screen capture from the full graphic, included below:

At first glance, the Ford SUV seen in the driveway here looks like the same one that smashed into the house, raising the prospect of unintended acceleration of the sort that led Waterway Carwash branches to ban certain Jeep Cherokees and Grand Cherokees -- and indeed, a lawsuit alleging unintended acceleration in assorted Fords was filed in West Virginia last week.
But a closer look reveals the vehicles are different. At this point, it appears the one in question veered off Sheridan Boulevard and through not one but two yards before coming to rest mostly inside the house.
Members of a family were reportedly inside the house at the time of the crash but were uninjured. The driver can't say the same; he was transported to an area hospital. Thus far, neither his identity nor that of the family members have been released. But the homeowners appear to have put up stakes at the front of their lawn in an effort to prevent people from doing just what the SUV driver did, to no avail.
Here's a 9News report, complete with an awkward pause before the main facts are shared, followed by an interactive graphic showing the area near the scene. If you have problems seeing the latter, click "View Larger Map."
