Wilson King identified as DU student hit and killed by car near campus

Video below.
The Denver coroner's office has identified the University of Denver student killed in an overnight auto-pedestrian crash as Wilson King, twenty.

He's originally from Winnetka, Illinois, and his LinkedIn profile lists him as planning to graduate in 2015.

We found a fairly recent YouTube video featuring King talking about politics and current events on the DU campus. It's below, along with details of this tragic accident.

In the clip below, King wears a green T-shirt emblazoned with the logo of the Orphanage Outreach Teach Corps. Among other topics, he shares his dislike of for-profit universities, because of the debt students who attend them often rack up.

The accident took place at around 12:38 a.m. this morning on the 1800 block of East Evans, near the High Street intersection. According to 9News, King wandered into traffic and was struck by a silver vehicle. Rather than hitting and running, as far too many individuals involved in such accidents have of late, the driver stayed on the scene, where King was pronounced dead.

Our condolences to King's friends, family and loved ones. Here's the 9News report.

As a mom who has twice lived through the death of a child, I am grieving for his family; lives changed forever, for ever. ... If you know them, walk a with them, listen to them. Their devistating journey has just begun and the process is solitary, but compassionate friends who can walk along at your side mean everything. Let's all hold each ither closer, be a bit more forgiving, for in the end it is only love that matters. Hilary

Concerned neighbor, if you live in that area then you know that it is University of Denver, not Denver University...

Sorry to hear about King's passing, but glad to know the driver stayed and didn't flee the scene.

This is really not the time or place for your snark--this was not a hit and run, the driver stayed to try to help. Very sad for Mr. King's family and friends.

This guy was in the same fraternity I was in at DU. We missed each other by a few years but it still stings. My friends and I have crossed that street in that exact same spot hundreds of times when we were there and it's definitely a dangerous spot. Thoughts and prayers go to his family and his friends.

would it REALLY break the bank for the ultra wealthy Denver University to build a damn pedestrian bridge over Evans?  BETTER YET HOW ABOUT YOU MAKE THE ONE ALREADY THERE OPEN 24/7 / 365 to the general public and student body?

DU please open up the pedestrian bridge and start saving lives. Far too many students and others in the neighborhood have been hurt (or almost hurt) by the traffic on Evans and University. This is easily the most dangerous stretch of road in the city in a lot of people's opinions!!

DU PLEASE OPEN UP YOUR PEDESTRIAN OVERPASS TO THE PUBLIC IMMEDIATELY

RIP Wilson King.

Mr. Roberts, I think you should correct your misquotation of Wilson in the YouTube video. He does not critique for-profit institutions, he critiques regulation of them.

@concerned-neighbor Why cater to people dumb enough to continually risk their lives?  I mean really, you'd think that enough people get hit/killed the rest would start to follow traffic LAWS, instead of ending up like this kid?  Bottom line: he made the decision, probably under the influence of alcohol, and he was killed because of his own choice to go out into traffic.  Sure it's sad; conversely, no one held a gun to his head and forced him out into traffic and in front of that car.  If you're going to DU (or any other college for that matter) I'd like to think you're smart enough to pass your classes as well as make common sense judgement calls when it comes to crossing traffic.

Ps. My son goes to DU too.

@dont-tempt-fate @JustStop Very, Very, Very, Very Rude!  Not sure what pleasure you get in even posting comments like this.  I hope your fate comes your way soon....

@dont-tempt-fate get a life you jack a** You are probably some jealous individual that has never went to college, does not have a job and therefore you are happy that a college student lost his life.  All because you never had the same opportunity.  Take your comments elsewhere, from all the comments above no one wants to hear from you.   You are a senseless person. F off

@JustStop @dont-tempt-fate Jaywalking across evans at night is a deathwish.

Last I checked, he got punished with losing his life.

He wasn't the first and he won't be the last.

@dont-tempt-fate please just shut up. I am friend of Wilson and for you to say these things is beyond rude and inconsiderate. A wonderful 20 year old lost his life and you got to live longer than that. Be grateful of what you have and let us grieve without your ridiculous opinions

@dont-tempt-fate What is your problem? Since when is jaywalking a death wish. He wasn't playing with fire, he was crossing a street. Last I checked, the punishment is a monetary fine. Show some damn respect.

@DUstudent @dont-tempt-fate @concerned-neighbor He lost his own life of his own accord.  If it were a hit and run of someone obeying traffic laws, I would totally be sympathetic for the situation.

Grieve all you want, the kid made a piss poor decision, and now he's paid for it.  Didn't his parents ever tell him to look both ways before crossing a street, let alone use a cross walk, let alone not cross streets illegally, let alone under the influence?

There's a difference between passing judgement and annotating facts.  He was probably a really great guy, but the fact of the matter is that irresponsibility and complacency kills.  Literally.

I have zero sympathy for stupidity.

Don't. Tempt. Fate.
