Photos: Ten memorable movies set in Colorado but not filmed here

Big photos below.
Yesterday, we shared our picks for the ten best movies filmed in Colorado. Today, we have a twist -- a top-ten countdown of movies set at least partly in Colorado, but not filmed here. At all.

We're using the word "memorable" instead of "best" for a reason: While some of these flicks are great, others range from "Meh" to "Damn my eyes!" But all of them will stick in your mind, even if the supposedly local scenery isn't so local. Check out all ten below, complete with posters, actual locations and descriptions courtesy of IMDB.

Number 10: Beerfest (2006)

Filming locations: New Mexico, California, Texas, Germany

IMDB description: "Two brothers travel to Germany for Oktoberfest, only to stumble upon secret, centuries-old competition described as a 'Fight Club' with beer games."

Number 9: Day of the Dead (2008)

day.of.the.dead.2008.poster.jpg
Filming location: Bulgaria

IMDB description: "When a small Colorado town is overrun by the flesh hungry dead a small group of survivors try to escape in a last ditch effort to stay alive."

Continue to keep counting down our list of ten memorable movies set in Colorado but not filmed here.

There was second unit footage of Boulder and the Flatirons in Kubricks 'The Shining'.

I think Colorado would be better off not being associated with Battlefield Earth

Two films based on Stephen King novels: Misery and The Shining (the 1980 version directed by Stanley Kubrick).

There's also Double Jeopardy, a film starring Ashley Judd and Tommy Lee Jones, which had a scene set in Evergreen, but was clearly shot...somewhere else. But, you did say "memorable"...

Liver Eatin' Johnson was primarily set in Montana.  Those were Crow Indians in the Absorakee Mountains he was killing.  The Crazy Mountains are named after that crazy lady whose family was killed.

@Charise Gutierrez the scenes inside the hotel were filmed here, so it kind of counts

@Ben Barr heh well isn't that why it's memorable, for its awfulness? Kinda like Showgirls...

@thespot84 No they weren't. All of it was shot on a soundstage in England. Kubrick did send a second unit here to do some exterior shots, but I don't think any of it ended up in the finished film.
