Update: 4th of July fireworks shows -- and the growing cancellation list

Fourth of July fireworks are an American tradition. But given the fire danger in Colorado, more and more communities are canceling their extravaganzas.

So...which shows are still on, and which ones aren't going to happen?

Look below for a wide-ranging list from across the state, complete with links and descriptions courtesy of city and event websites. The info is subject to change: Note that Golden cancelled its display while we were writing this post. But here's the best current info about where to go to watch the skies light up.

Arvada will hold its annual 4th of July Community Celebration at the Stenger Sports Fields (West 58th Avenue and Oak Street)

Parking is open at 3:00 p.m. Festivities will begin at 4 p.m. Bring your family to this FREE event that will bring community together to honor our nation's independence. Fireworks will begin after 9:00 p.m.

DJs and live bands will keep the patriotic mood going throughout the afternoon. The celebration includes fun features including:
* A kids park with inflatables, games and other fun activities.
* Craft booths and games
* Face painting and balloon artists
* Mini Classic Car Show
* Tasty food and drinks
* Displays from the Marines, Arvada Fire and Pridemark Paramedics

Free parking is first come, first served beginning at 3 p.m. in the Stenger parking lot. Handicapped parking is in the Lower Lutz parking lot - enter from Oak Street. Parking is prohibited along Kipling Street.

No personal fireworks, alcohol or pets are allowed at the complex. This free event is brought to you by the Arvada Festivals Commission, the City of Arvada, KOOL 105 Radio and Apex Park and Recreation District.

Aspen:

Avon:

Avon is famous for its spectacular fireworks display over Nottingham Lake! We invite you to join us for a fantastic evening of live music featuring the Dirty Dozen Brass Band as the headlining act and Whitewater Ramble!

Come early and spread your blanket to get the best spot to enjoy an evening of free music, food vendors, ice cold beer and the Family Zone all starting at 5:00 p.m. Over 10,000 shells will explode over Nottingham Lake at 9:45 p.m. choreographed to a unique muscial score you will not soon forget!

New This Year...event parking will be available for at the rodeo lots with direct bus service for only $10 per vehicle!

Aurora:

Activities: Patriotic music simulcast on Studio 1430 KEZW radio

Food and beverages will be sold on site

Black Hawk:

The Boom Town Band will play in the gazebo at Stroehle Square on the corner of Black Hawk St. and Main St., from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Thursday. The Fourth of July fireworks display on Thursday evening will be visible from most locations throughout the City, and visitors are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnics to enjoy the show. Fireworks begin at dusk, which is typically around 9:30 p.m., and are free and open to all ages.

The City of Black Hawk is located just 35 miles west of Denver via I-70 or U.S. Highway 6.

Boulder:

Gates open at 8:00 PM, Monarch High School Marching Band, Open Space & Mountain Parks Rangers, Mad Hops, and more!

Breckenridge:

Celebrate Independence Day with lively entertainment, free activities and dynamic family fun. Breck's Independence Day celebration kicks off with a 10K trail run and continues throughout the day with the Firecracker 50 bike race leading the vibrant Fourth of July Parade on historic Main Street, July Arts Festival, live music, kids' activities and so much more. End the night with the National Repertory Orchestra performing a patriotic concert at the Riverwalk Center.

Brighton:

7News: "Fireworks will go off in Carmichael Park at dusk."

Broomfield:

7News: "Firework display will begin around 9:30 pm at Broomfield County Commons Park."
