Free ammo at gun-law protest? Not quite, Denver Post

Big photos below.
As we've reported, Magpul is a weaponry business based in Erie that's so aghast at new gun-control laws about to go into effect that it's pledged to leave Colorado. Before folks at the firm pull up stakes, though, they're doing everything they can to protest what they see as an attack on their rights as American citizens via efforts like a recent sale of special "Free Colorado" magazines to benefit gun-rights causes. But is Magpul now going to hand out actual ammunition to make its point? Not quite -- even though the Denver Post reported it this morning.

Here's the headline that appeared in the Post's print edition:

So...is Magpul giving away bullets? Nope -- as the headline on the Post's online version of the article makes clear. Instead, the company is offering magazines of the same sort featured in the aforementioned sale. Here's a larger look at the "Free Colorado" magazine....

...and this is a variation dubbed "Boulder Airlift" that has also been earmarked for giveaway:

How can you get one of these mags? By being among the first 1,500 people over age eighteen to show up at an event called the "Farewell to Arms Freedom Festival," which takes place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 29, at Infinity Park, 4599 East Tennessee Avenue in Glendale.

Why was this date chosen? The Magpul Facebook page notes, "This event marks Coloradans' last chance to celebrate the ability to own standard capacity magazines prior to new Colorado laws taking effect on July 1st."

The event is sponsored by FreeColorado.net, a nonprofit that describes its mission like so: "Engaging in targeted actions to reverse Colorado laws that imperil the rights of law-abiding firearm owners and ensuring that no other State passes such reckless government regulation."

The site linked above encourages early registration, especially for those who want one of the free magazines, which will be illegal to purchase in Colorado next Monday. But when it comes to bullets, you're on your own.

I miss the Rocky Mountain News more and more every day.  I wouldn't wipe my rear with the liberal commie POST. Quit taking it a couple years ago for the very reason given here in Westword.

Why not try 'Free Guns @ an Ammunition Show' ?????

I guarantee you'll be able to buy these magazines in gun stores after July 1st. Why would they stop selling them? Police wont patrol gun stores. The worst that will happen is some news channel will send in a hidden camera like they do so often, buy some mags, and give the store free advertising. So the store pays a fine, who cares, the free advertising and increased customers will pay for the fine and more.

Hey gun advocates, the "registration" is a ploy to get all of your personal information on a list so the government can track who has what soon-to-be illegal gun equipment in Colorado.  Don't fall for it.  They'll be coming for you first, using the information that you've given to them.

Hey anti-gun advocates, surely 1500 of you can register and get these free magazines before they fall into the hands of gun-nuts everywhere.

Good luck to both of you.

I'll be there bright and early with a lawn chair and beer.  I like a good civil conflict.

America is a great country. Whee else can you give your product away for free, then take a tax deduction from the same government you are protesting?

This is a topic where no matter what I say, I'm being a hypocrite or contradicting a belief or statement I have previously made . I absolutely support the right to bear arms, but at the same time, WHY MUST it include assault varieties ? Additionally, what right does the Gov to say a person can't ???

I guess in the end,

when it comes right down to it,

I'd rather deal w/ the criminals,

than support MORE Government !

FUCK THE POLICE !!!

The Denver Post's "digital first" strategy in action, apparently. No copy editing required for the print product...

I'm being stubborn & reaching .

I just want that 'banner' removed !

@Juan_Leg ... you were already told why once before, yet you chose to ignore it.

Our resident Chimp posts as an Anonymous User, hasn't bothered to create a VoiceNation account, so without an account profile, there is no way for the comments to be credited to the Simian, therefore no way to earn the coveted "Top Commenter" badge and a free banana.

Though once everyone has the Badge of Bluster, it becomes meaningless. A better system would note Total Comments as an integer ... or at least reduce the font size of the badge.
