Reader: John Hickenlooper should have let Nathan Dunlap die

Dunlap.
Yesterday, we wrote about a poll showing that the vast majority of Coloradans think Governor John Hickenlooper shouldn't have granted condemned killer Nathan Dunlap an execution reprieve. The issue is one that bring out passions in people, no matter their position. That's certainly clear in the following post by a person upset with Hick.

Jay Jurgens writes:

I think he should have let him go straight to the gas chamber. I know a lot of people are going to disagree with my opinion. I have been on the other side of of things that I base my opinion on being for the death penalty. If people want him to stay in prison, then let them pay for this scumbag's needs. He deserves what he gave and there is no doubt of his guilt, so let him die and cut him off the prison system's tit. He should face the same fear of death as the people he murdered.

There is no doubt that he deserves to die. And he will - whether it's four years from now when another Governor sits in the office and rescinds the reprieve or when he dies of old age alone in a tiny cell, cut off from the world and the system he so soundly rejected.

The state has the right to punish, but not kill. His punishment should be to spend the next untold number of years without the benefit of sunlight.

Hickenlooper doesn't like killing, is that wrong? What the answer? Maybe we need more people like Hickenlooper to answer the questions!

They are paying for this scumbags needs Jay, with their tax dollars. People who don't support the death penalty pay taxes just like the people who do.

Yes and hickenpooper should have to pay for him to stay alive now not the taxpayers who sentenced him to die. Dunlap is the only person happy with this decision .....

I get sick & tired of reading comments attacking Hick's character,  rather than the decision he made regarding Dunlap . I say this w/ the utmost respect & sincerity, Hick's too nice of a person to be a politician !

The only reason Hickenlooper should have stepped in is if Dunlap was innocent, but he is not. Why does this monster (Dunlap) need to stay alive? Is Hickenlooper going to pay for his incarceration out of his own pocket? This guy walked into a Chuck E. Cheese and killed people, he deserves to be put down.

The title is sort if misleading. Hickenlooper should have allowed Dunlap to complete his sentence as decided by a group of his peers. Hickenlooper stood in the way of our justice system.

Absolutely. Chickenlooper protects killers and oil companies. Screws the rest of us.

One thing about murderers given the death penalty. There is no recidivism.
