Facebook's "Other" tab: What weird messages have collected on your page?

Some among us spend so many waking hours on Facebook that they know every feature of their page as well as the alphabet. Others (like yours truly) understand the basic functions but not the idiosyncrasies.

This post is for the latter.

Do you regularly check the "Other" tab? If not, you may discover what I did this morning -- that I have unseen messages there dating back three years.

I was spurred to investigate the land of Other by a 7News spin-off on an ABC News piece. According to both, the "Other" tab, accessible (but easy not to notice) when you click the "Messages" button, collects notes sent to users by people not designated as friends -- and because the function has been in place for three years, items that old can be found lingering in this cyber-repository.

That certainly was true in my case. Two copies of a proposed update to Facebook's privacy policy have been waiting since March 25, 2010 for me to lay eyeballs on them. In addition, I had a slew of other 2010 entries (about a concert, a book event, a record-company promotion and three reminders about that year's Larimer Sidewalk Arts festival), a trio of posts about a 2011 charity Texas Hold 'Em tournament, an invitation from someone I don't know to help her celebrate turning "dirty thirty," and two 2012 story tips -- one legitimate, the other insane -- that received no follow-up from yours truly because I had no idea they existed.

Wasting time on Facebook this morning? Check to see if you, too, have any tardy "Other" messages. You may be surprised what you find. I know I was.

Yup never knew until my boyfriend seen a message under "other" from old acquaintance which was a guy! And I dont have him on fb and still there was a message from that guy under the "other" tab which didnt kno of! FB causes bad things to happen in relationships when you didnt even do anything wrong or never knew about it. I wish I could some how get rid of the "other" tab! SO THANKS FB for ruining trust for me in my relationship!!!!

Thanks for this. There was a message from January from an old boyfriend asking me how I've been. I haven't seen him since 2000. Really.

I got one from some pro-liar scolding me for sending a message of support to Mehcad Brooks for his pro-choice ad.

Early on I had one or two old friends trying to contact me; I was pretty pissed that I didn't see their messages for months. Lately, I've had two Nigerian scammers and one guy who wanted to friend me; I checked his page and he was clearly trying to friend me because he was an Evangelical and wanted to spread the (bad) news. Oh, and one hysterical letter from some nutty woman who thought I had made a death threat against her (no, I didn't) in a public forum and was going to report me to the police. Yeah, that'll work.

i found mine in February. I had one from someone offering me their 4th row tix to Experience Hendrix at the Paramount, (found way after the fact), and a 6 month old message from my local stereo shop saying I had won that months drawing for a pair of Martin Logan earbuds, which they still honored.

I knew it was there but forget to check it all the time. I just did and saw a cute picture of my dog from my friends that were watching them when we were away a few months ago and one from one of my favorite bands telling me I was on the guest list for their show in June of 2012.The rest were mostly spam, but that guest list one really bugs me. I "like" them on fb and shared their Denver gig - I should have seen that email!

Hey what's up Amy? Does size matter?? (What is wrong with people?) Another one said "Have fun at the strip club!" (I don't go to strip clubs)
