Jana Winter.
Melanie Asmar has been reporting about the efforts to force Fox News' Jana Winter to reveal where she got information about a key notebook in the Aurora theater shooting case.

Winter's fighting a subpoena, but she hasn't gotten a lot of support from our readers, including this one.

Patrick Solano writes:

Just curious where the line of journalistic responsibility lies. Why do journalists think they're immune from the law? 1st amendment is a right, not a shield. I smell another lawsuit. Feeling more threatened than ever before? "Significant Hardships." Really? Aren't these all par of the "risks" journalists take? Ridiculous. I hope she gets another subpoena from the DoD to disclose who was going to give her info on the "potential breaches of a major defense program."

The 1st Am. is secured by the Constitution, which means very little to the current administration.

No, the reader is dumb. The First Amendment is a right. Unless of course you have information uncovering government corruption and criminal behavior or were involved with the "occupy" protests. Then, from what I see, the First Amendment is just a gift.

Pretty incoherent. What use is a right if it doesn't protect you? And what does the case of someone exercising his second amendment rights as part of a well-regulated militia, to do with potential, not actual, breaches of a major defense program?

This reader has obviously never heard of a shield law.

Reporters do need to protect their sources. Its very important part of protecting them so that they can properly use the first amendment...and it is a right, that's why its in the Bill of Rights, like the #1 thing in the bill of rights, duh!
