Reader: Denver's great, but that doesn't mean we need a bunch of Texans moving here

denver.skyline.photograph.205x205.jpg
Yesterday, we shared a list of Movoto's top thirty reasons why you should move to Denver. It's the kind of post that gets people talking, and that certainly proved to be the case.

But do Denverites really want a huge influx of folks impressed by the city's many attributes? This reader certainly doesn't.

Chris Ross writes:

We are running out of vacancy fast. Don't destroy the greatness of this place by overpopulating, over polluting, ridiculous traffic, etc. We don't want to be a big city! Hear me Texans??

Let me explain the difference between Texans and people from Dallas, Dallas is a island into itself with little more to do than to spend in excess and push the conservative will of the self serving on the people around them. Austin and rest of Texas isn't much better but they are a different breed all together and a bit more laid back. As a rule most Texans are decent people (cant drive , I know was one of them, took a while to get used to doing the speed limit as all roads in Texas are 90 mph even if marked otherwise). Most of us are moving here are to get away from the conservative bull crap that makes up our government and daily life , as there is very little middle ground in Texas .Actually as a highly paid IT professional , I am finding there is a knowledge purge coming our way. Some of the best and the brightest are moving to Colorado from the Texas technology sector and they are making a huge difference on the landscape of the job market here in Denver. Smart people from Texas =less outsourcing to other countries. Yes Texans are self absorbed materialistic and bad drivers but it could be worse, the migration could be coming from Arkansas :)

I was born in Cali. but I am what you would call a semi-native in that I lived all over the country growing up to including the metro area and I consider Colorado to be my home. I first moved here as a small tyke in 1977.  I just moved back from Arizona and I plan to never move away again unless it is to Fiji. The city has changed a lot over the last 30 years. I just wish that Denver would be left off any and all lists that show how great it is. Let them move to Boulder it is an awesome town if you do not know any better. We can try and keep Denver a quiet gem

MOVE TO BOULDER!!!!

I just moved here from Austin, and I love it here. The last thing I want is for CO to turn into another Texas. There's a reason why I left that horrible state.

I'm not sure why it is, but Texans seem to be universally disliked every place that I have ever visited.

The reason Denver ISN'T great is because of people like that. The "last person off the bus" mentality is ridiculous.

Its not just Colorado. Its everywhere. Oregon, Washington ect... Some are climate refugees some are leaving a bankrupt state. Who can blame them? It is a drag to be invaded and over run but this is going on all over the place and certainly Denver in the last 20 years.  I miss things the way they used to be...but that is just the way it is. People with the money have the power and choices. :( Plenty of local and native jackasses here too.

The only safe place is on the moon.

Don't generalize all Texans. Most of them, like me, are trying to bring some southern hospitality to CO which is much needed here. There are only a select few that give us all a bad name. I still hold doors open for people. Nobody does that here!

Haha, dude my history teacher straight up killed Texas in class yesterday. She told us she stole this from a bumper sticker, but still! "If god wanted texans to ski, he would have given them a mountain" I love my teachers this semester. i'll never schedule classes without checking ratemyprof first again.

Californians are fine, they fit in well (though I feel bad for those of you who live in the burbs and may be surrounded by OC transplants), but the Texans and Midwesterners are bad. Like the people who have the colorado plate sticker that says like "buckeye" or "spartan" on it? If its so great, go back. Or all the Cubs fans. Wash Park is like 'Little Chicago' now. And they're all up tight over privileged yuppies. The folks from Texas suck because they have no idea how to drive in the snow (terrified, and glued to the left lane) or around people on bikes (speeding through the city as if they're on a six lane road back home in suburban Dallas).

Military moved my family from Texas to here, and then the Military kept us here. We like it. :)

As a transplant from NY.... This city is for anyone who wants to come here...as long as they respect it.

The irony of ANYONE in this country getting butthertz from people "invading" from another state is palpable..

Nothing stays the same way forever. lets not fall too far with the way things are, it's nice, but it's not permanent. and when we stop being welcoming we start acting like montanans, bitter and rude to every new person whose family hasn't been born in the state for at least 3 generations. lets not be those guys, huh?

If they were coming here to escape TX, that would be one thing. If they are coming here to try and make CO more like TX then they can just stay where they are.

@Daniel James Plummer  You like seeing your dollars leave the state and go to other countries? You mean the same ones that cross the border illegally and don't pay taxes and crowd the emergency rooms cause they have no insurance.? The one's who don't carry car insurance or drivers licenses and drive like crap cause they cant read road signs? Sorry dude cool story, but I would take a Texan with insurance and responsibility over your choice any day of the week.

@Christopher Paul Texas isn't in the south it just happens to be south of here. The majority of Texans that I have met here or in my travels are for lack of a better term,DOUCHES. They can't drive, ski or seem to be able to bathe on a regular basis. As far as your hospitality, we don't need it. Except for Vermont, Colorado is the friendliest place I have ever lived.

@Cade Swanson  Sorry, dude it is dude right ? from your photo I can't tell. Well we ain't got much snow that's the truth, if we did it wouldn't be Texas now would it. but ya'll aint got no coast line, or international border, or desert . All this hate toward Texans. But I understand, Ya'll are just sooo jealous. Its ok I forgive you. Thats what Jesus would want me to do.

@John Twigg a good portion I would consider political refugees more than transplants. Texas has become a police state, it's conservative good ole boy government has driven the intellectuals away and that's always the beginning .

@redsoxfan  Yes, I can tell how friendly you are. you should move away from Colorado your a bad influence.
