Joyce Bradmon, schmuck, convicted for pulling pellet gun over kids using sidewalk chalk

According to the 19th Judicial District DA's office, Joyce Bradmon, 76, has "a history of disagreements" with residents in her Greeley neighborhood. But one incident stands above all the others, marking her as both a legendary crank in the hallowed, get-off-my-lawn tradition and a deserving Schmuck of the Week honoree. Her achievement? She's been convicted of felony menacing for brandishing an unloaded but realistic-looking pellet gun after kids dared to use sidewalk chalk in her vicinity.

Almost exactly two years ago, on August 28, 2011, Bradmon allegedly began yelling at a neighbor's daughter and another kid from the area for the crime of chalking the sidewalk next to her house.

The girl's dad heard this crazy exchange and confronted Bradmon, at which point she took aim with a pellet gun described as a replica of a Colt semi-automatic.

The fake gat was convincing enough that the neighbor is said to have taken cover behind his truck and immediately called 911. And the cops who responded thought it was real, too, until they took it into their possession.

Before long, 9News caught wind of the exchange and interviewed Bradmon as she was riding in her motorized wheelchair.

In conversation, she mostly shrugged off the incident. "It's a pellet gun, it wasn't loaded," she told the station, adding that if she owned actual firearms, "it has a permit -- two of them, as a matter of fact." She also characterized neighbors who'd spoken to a 9News reporter as "trash" and said they were lying about her.

Not according to a jury of her presumably less crotchety peers. This week, they convicted her of felony menacing. She'll be formally sentenced on October 25, and while it's unlikely she'll get any jail time given her age, she might enjoy the atmosphere, since it's doubtful inmates are allowed to use sidewalk chalk.

Here's a 9News from a couple months after the pellet-gun showing, during which Bradmon tells an inquiring reporter to "hit the street." Enjoy.

Seriously?!? It's only chalk IT WASHES OFF!! It's not like they were using spray paint or using it on her house or car. WTH?! If it was obscene or something she could be upset but not enough to bring ANY kind of gun out & threaten the kids. When the kids get older--people wonder why they get a gun & go shoot others. Hmmmmmm...

Definitely a schmuck, but also very sad that someone would be this angry and stupid.

Your writing quality is terrible. Watch "The Outlaw Josey Wales" and you'll see a realistic gating gun in use ... to refer to a BB gun as "The fake gat" is like calling a nerf sword a katana

Today prosecutors charge because they can rather than because they should. That's the problem.

"She's been convicted of felony menacing for brandishing an unloaded but realistic-looking pellet gun after kids dared to use sidewalk chalk in her vicinity." THIS is a felony? Only in the retarded United States!

Westword, why do you start your story with a lie? She pointed it at the dad, not the kids. I wouldn't doubt this lady is right and the neighbors are trash. Them kids probably give her shit all the time. She probably has a nicer yard than them people and she's in a wheelchair. Let's see a picture of their yard, especially the back yard.

What wasn't reported is that the "chalk" those kids were using was actually pure uncut cocaine. They'd draw something then sniff it up. Sometimes they'd add baking soda and make sculptures that they would then smoke. Clearly art is a problem in this country.

I think I've seen pictures of her riding her Rascal through the McD's drive through.

@Jame Koopman  If their yard isn't as nice they definitely deserve to be threatened by what appears to be a deadly weapon. Duly noted shmuck apologist. Jame (sic) Koopman (Poopman).
