Marijuana: Joe Biden invited to take part in Boulder free joint giveway

Earlier this month, a group opposed to Proposition AA, the measure to establish tax rates on recreational marijuana sales in Colorado, staged a rally at Civic Center Park during which attendees were given free joints.

Now, that same group, No on Proposition AA, is planning a second free-joint event tomorrow on Boulder's Pearl Street Mall. And one organizer, attorney Rob Corry, has written a letter to Vice President Joe Biden inviting him to take part.

Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, are expected in Colorado Monday to survey damage from the floods that have devastated so many Front Range communities. But Corry hopes he has time to participate in another event.

Corresponding via e-mail, Cory maintains that he's written a letter to Biden inviting him to help hand out marijuana (see the document below) because "he already does just that through the Federal Compassionate New Drug Investigational Program.

"We hope that Biden's visit to Colorado on the same day will bring more attention to this tax increase and will enhance our flood relief efforts," he adds.

"No on Proposition AA" to Hold a Boulder Flood Relief Joint Giveaway!

Who: Friends, Stoners, Countrymen, "No Over Taxation," a Registered Issue Committee, A Whole Lot of Flood Stressed People, campaign volunteers, Robert J. Corry, Jr., "Scorched Earth Lawyer" and Amendment 64 co-drafter.

What: Flood relief joint giveaway by representatives from the "No on Proposition AA" Campaign, who oppose the highest tax increase in Colorado history, authorizing a 30% State tax on recreational marijuana (15% excise tax and 15% sales tax). Free marijuana joints will be handed out to any person who is age 21 or older who attends the formal launch. No remuneration whatsoever will be accepted for the marijuana. No public consumption of marijuana and all adults in attendance must be in possession of less than an ounce each unless otherwise permitted by law. This is a permitted event by the City of Boulder. Handing out free marijuana to adults 21+ is legal under the Colorado Constitution, Article XVIII § 16 ("Amendment 64").

When: Monday, September 23, 2013, beginning at 11:00 AM and runs until we run out

Where: Pearl Street Mall, 1325 Pearl St., Boulder, CO 80302

Why: Flood relief doesn't stop at clothes, medical supplies, food and shelter, people lost their pot too! Cannabis is expensive as it is, so this Monday, No on Proposition AA is headed to Boulder to give joints away to medical marijuana patients and stressed out recreational users. No on Proposition AA wants to educate Boulder residents, who are already going to be struggling financially recovering from the flood, about the highest tax increase in Colorado history. For those who use cannabis, this is only going to add to their financial burden.

Voters need to know that Amendment 64 was sold as the "Alcohol Marijuana Equalization Initiative." Marijuana taxes should be fair and equivalent to Colorado alcohol taxes, which are less than 1%. Passage of Proposition AA creates public safety problems. A bloated and greedy government does not serve the Public Interest. The joint handout is a real-time demonstration of basic economics: Proposition AA's extreme taxes will undercut the Regulated Marijuana Market, and illegal Black Market and legal Gray Market (which is legal, but untaxed and unregulated), will expand.

Donations for flood relief accepted.

I like it.  It's brilliant. What better way to get in the administration's face.

"Just get a shotgun and step out on the porch and fire 2 shots into the air" Joe biden on home protection. At least the guy in DC last week was listening ot the VP. And people though Dan Q. was stupid.

HuffPost's Radley Balko"

"Biden has sponsored more damaging drug war legislation than any Democrat in Congress. Hate the way federal prosecutors use RICO laws to take aim at drug offenders? Thank Biden. How about the abomination that is federal asset forfeiture laws? Thank Biden. Think federal prosecutors have too much power in drug cases? Thank Biden. Think the title of a “Drug Czar” is sanctimonious and silly? Thank Biden, who helped create the position (and still considers it an accomplishment worth boasting about). Tired of the ridiculous steroids hearings in Congress? Thank Biden, who led the effort to make steroids a Schedule 3 drug, and has been among the blowhardiest of the blowhards when it comes to sports and performance enhancing drugs. Biden voted in favor of using international development aid for drug control (think plan Columbia, plan Afghanistan, and other meddling anti-drug efforts that have only fostered loathing of America, backlash, and unintended consequences). Oh, and he was also the chief sponsor of 2004′s horrendous RAVE Act. this invitation intended to be a slap in the VP's face?  If so, I'm all for it. Slap away!

I would *HOPE* that Correy,, would know that Biden is NOT a friend of the legalization movement.

Biden hates marijuana and wants to see it remain illegal. He is also Obama's lap dog and would love to see the general public completely dis-armed....Instead of asking this clown to hand out joints, someone should ask the Vice President if he feels guilty about all these 'children' getting gunned down in the streets due to the continuation of Obama's drug war....Sounds like he is on the wrong side of BOTH of these issues since the Drug War is responsible for most of the gun violence in this nation....

@BozoTheBiden Passionate post, BozoTheBiden. We're going to make it an upcoming Comment of the Day. Thanks.

@BozoTheBiden  I agree.  This ridiculous 'Drug War' needs to stop.  But the gun violence you spoke of has nothing to do with Marijuana.  'Marijuana related gun violence' does not exist.

@jeff  I didn't read Bozo's comment that way.  It seems to me that the reference may be to gang and other violence caused by prohibition.   ...could always be mistaken, though....
