Yesterday, our preview of an anti-marijuana-taxation rally staged at Civic Center Park turned into a comment-a-rama, and while not everyone took the issue seriously -- one post reads simply, "Duuuuuuuuude!!!" -- most of those who shared their thoughts did.

Here's one example from an opponent of the regulatory approach.

SMARTIsReallyStupid writes:

Anyone who votes for this tax is a SUCKER! Why would you vote to fund the very same programs that are going to be used to abuse and incarcerate yourselves? A lot of this money will be going to law enforcement to keep their scams to collect money operational....A64 was a big hit in their pocket-books and they are looking to re-coup....

Taxing over 10 percent(including sales tax) will drive the black market, imagine a 30% tax on a case of beer....

Keep the tax rate the same as the tax on booze, I think it is one percent.

I'm sorry, but even though there's a lot of weed smokers in Colorado, not everyone knows where to get it. Nor do people wish to wait for so and so to get off work or reply to their calls so they can pick up a bag of something they hope might be good or even weed at all. People will buy it in stores no matter what it costs. Get over it. Instead of whining about a necessary tax, why not promote at least making it a reasonable tax? Instead of fifty percent, twenty five sounds doable. If there going to put a high tax on marijuana, then they might as well put a high tax on tobacco and alcohol as well to make it fair.

Hell no! We voted on it to be legalized and taxed. We need the tax dollars that was the WHOLE reason it became legal now people out there are acting like 4 year olds about it. We need the tax dollars end of story. It is not like it is going to be anywhere near as expensive as when it was illegal.

Tax for a product that will have health and social costs is a responsible thing to do. Grow up people!

Not everyone is a 16-year-old with instant hookups at school or wherever - most grownups actually prefer to obey the law most of the time

We voted for it to be taxed...LIKE ALCOHOL. Further, those with the probs of taxation can grow their own 6 plants. They need to get their shit together.

This tax is a bad idea whether you partake or not. It's too high, which will encourage illicit trade. The whole point of legalization was to curb the black market. Pick a tax rate that people can live with! Something in the 10% range.

If you think marijuana isn't going to get taxed you are way to fucking high.

If I have a store selling the exact same product, as the competitor for less money,I will do more business. If I'm selling something for $100 and the competitor is selling the exact same thing for $110, $120 or $150, where will you shop?

Voting against their excessive taxation won't overturn the law that was passed. The industry doesn't need to be regulated any more than alcohol, if even that.

You are discounting the huge number of people in Colorado who obey the law, and who do not want to deal with the consequences of breaking the law. Cannabis is mainstream now. No one wants to move backwards on that.
