Update: Earlier this month, we told you about the escape of convicted sex offender Eugene Martinez from Denver police headquarters; he'd been handcuffed to a bench but managed to slip his bonds. See our previous coverage below.

Now, Martinez has been taken into custody once again, but not before allegedly committing a new round of crimes, including sex assault, attempted assault and burglary.

Look below for the latest.

The break in the case came just after 10 a.m. on Saturday morning via a call from a 23-year-old woman who reported an incident on the 700 block of Marine Street in Boulder. The area is captured in this interactive graphic; if you have problems seeing the image, click "View Larger Map."

At about 3 a.m. on Saturday, according to information the woman provided to the Boulder Police Department, the woman awakened to find a man digging through her purse. He then split with her purse, her wallet and her cell phone.

But that wasn't the worst of it. The BPD reports that another resident of the home, a 22-year-old woman, shared with police her belief that the man "may have sexually assaulted her and her 21-year-old female friend," who was sleeping in the same room. She added that they may have left the door unlocked.

An hour or so later, the cops managed to track the stolen cell phone to what's described as a homeless encampment near 14th and Grandview. Here's an interactive graphic of that site:

There, an officer contacted a man matching the description of the intruder provided by the women: a man in his forties with dark skin and baggy jeans. He reacted by splitting, but he was rounded up and taken into custody on the 1600 block of Arapahoe Avenue, but not before allegedly trying to assault the officer in question.

The man was later ID'd as Martinez.

At this writing, Martinez hasn't been fitted with a new batch of charges. But they'll likely be formalized soon, along with ones pertaining to his Denver flight.

Here's a larger look at Martinez's booking photo.

The recent victims need to sue every citizen of Denver for $50 for their police department's malfeasance.
