Reader: Marijuana-using skiers will stop going to resorts that don't tolerate pot

There was a huge response to our post featuring Arapahoe Basin chief operating officer Alan Henceroth's post about public consumption of marijuana and the possibility of having one's lift ticket pulled for a violation. Here's the take of someone who thinks consumers will choose where to ski in part because of pot policies at different areas.

Even as A-Basin takes an intolerant approach, other resorts will look the other way in most instances, as long as things don't get out of hand. That's the beauty of the free market. People will simply vote with their skis.

I'm sure every ski resort in this state would love to get rid of the stoners. It would be a huge boost in their appeal to the wealthy clients that they actually want on their mountain.

A-basin sucks anyway! You'd have to be on CRACK,to wanna ski there! Mary jane, even loveland, is a better place to ski. Nothing natives dont already know!

Ive been skiing/ snowboarding for 25 years and 23 of them I smoked pot. I'm really sick of how certain resorts cater to these out of touch out of towners. Beaver Creek has become little Texas.Pretty much if it's Vail resorts it's overrun by anti-pot loseres that pose more of a threat sober than I ever will no matter what I'm on.

Why dont they just vote to close every single bar and liquor store as well. The same republicans that own these resorts are the same assholes that want to shutdown government and complain about healthcare. Step back from whois saying this

Just be respectful where ever you are I think is the point.

It's funny to hear the people who talk about "my kids shouldn't have to smell it." Why not exactly? Do your kids occasionally get a whiff of cigarette smoke? Do you freak out when they ask about the smell or do you calmly do your paternal duty and educate them? Also, it's absurd because I have smoked on-mountain at many resorts and I've never even smelled my own herb, much less any one else's. You ARE outside, in the woods, after all. Lastly, this is ridiculous because it's unenforceable.

Legal or not people have been and will continue to smoke wherever they want. I guess I'd much rather have some stoner skiing down the mountain then some drunk asshole who's been getting tanked down at your bar all day

so if you're in nature don't use nature because someone else visiting nature may be offended or in some sort of imaginary danger? makes perfect sense.... pfffft!

skiers have been smoking for as long as they've been skiers. and smokers smoke whether or not it is 'legal'. and the new law says you must be at home (righ?)... sure skiers may feel like they live on the mountain, but smoking on the mountain isn't covered by the laws (unless you are back-country on your own land o0)..

Good, I hope so. The law that was passed, that they fought so hard for, specifically allows PRIVATE consumption. Now many seem to want to say, "Well, yeah, we said 'private' to get the law passed, but everyone knows we can toke up wherever we like." I voted in favor of 64 and (still) believe MJ should be legal, but I also don't want myself and my kids to have to smell it all day. Not downtown, not at the ski areas. If you can't go a day at the slopes without a hit, go to your car.
