Photos: Five Colorado places that smell worse than the pot smoker next door

Big photos below.
At today's Denver City Council meeting, as we've reported, an ordinance establishing possible fines and even jail time for home pot smoking that can be seen or smelled from a neighboring property is expected to be presented.

Marijuana activists have already decried the "sniff test" proposal, calling it unconstitutional. But it got us to thinking: What other places in Colorado smell so criminally bad? Here's our top five.

Number 5: Any LoDo alley on Saturday morning

On Friday nights, people letting off steam after a long week flock to LoDo to fill up on substances that eventually need to come out again -- and a lot of folks don't wait to get home before emptying themselves in a wide variety of aromatic ways.

The result is often piles of puke, pools of piss and other stuff we'd rather not describe in detail -- and heating them up the next day doesn't usually improve their scent.

Continue to keep counting down our list of five Colorado places that smell worse than the post smoker next door.

The egg factories are by far the worst, especially in a valley.. The Packinghouse District was also a place you didn't go to in the daytime. And still can't go to the Stock Show Complex without smelling dung, no matter the show.

You would think that the mayor and city council would have more important things to address like how the city is literally crippled from out of control road project construction done without any planning as to the staggering of projects to reduce effects on business, traffic congestion and gridlock and its effects on our standard of living. I live in Cherry Creek and what has gone on now for 6 months at 1st and University and the surrounding area in inexcusable!!! Don't we have more important concerns Mayor Hancock.

What a disappointing perspective from Mr Roberts, who has likely not been to Greeley in quite some time evidenced by his inaccurate information. I would love to invite him to experience the culture, music, and great food and restaurants that Greeley shares with much of Northern Colorado. Compared to the interesting odors experienced in metro Denver, I believe he would find it a breathe of fresh air! C'mon up and join us anytime.

What a hackneyed lazy piece of insulting garbage.  Contributing to an unfortunate habit of insulting ethnically diverse towns with a resource based economies from inside the sneering walls of hipsterville.  Tell me some more about how awesome and cool you are by putting down communities based on facts from 20 years ago.  Greeley is a great town.  Great food, great music, vibrant diverse community coincidentally no feedlots and very few folks who make a living rehashing trite stereotypes about working class (often hispanic) communities that happen to be great places to live and study.

Oh, because we all know there is NO PLACE in Denver that stinks. I prefer the pot smoke and Greeley over elitist yuppified holier-than-thou Denver magazine writers who think their bleached bungholes don't eliminate s**t that stinks like everyone else's. Yes, sometimes the wind blows a certain way and you can smell the manure spread on the fields OUTSIDE of town to grow the food YOU ALL eat. The packing plant is an old issue, but I wouldn't expect you to have done any research at all to have learned that since you are not a journalist. When was the last time (if ever) you were in Greeley?

Hi, wasn't sure if you'd been to Greeley recently--it's actually a really neat city with lots going on. A city ordinance required that feedlots move out of Greeley 10+ years ago; if you look on a map, you're going to see many feedlots north of Denver but not in Greeley.

If they are going to ban any smells or odors, they should ban the smell of that dog food factory on the highway up in Denver...that smells so horrible!!!

Legislators that don't follow the will of the people stink. Let's make them illegal.

Maybe you shouldn't have allowed smokers to be pushed outside of private business'. But that was part of the plan of the CCIA, to start pissing people off outside so they'll cry for smoking to made illegal outdoors.

Do they have a law that makes people take showers every day? I thought so! This law stinks to high hell!

Cigarette smoke should be illegal. I can't stand when I'm almost anywhere outside and I get smoke in my face. Nothing enrages me more... One day someone's gonna get punched in the throat.

What great points. Thank you for reminding me of the aromatic stenches that are all around us. When you're smelling something, you're really tasting it. Eww! I hope we can get organized and go to City Council to oppose this ordinance.

So much for regulating it like alcohol. If they did, we'd be able to go downtown and enjoy a joint at a bar, without concern. But nah, let's just keep the drinks coming and let people drive!

The Holy Trinity of the garbage dump, the refinery and the sewage treatment plant.  And there is an asphalt plant at 53rd and Quebec that will choke you right to death.  Guess that makes it a Quadrinity....

The only way this is even close to being reasonable is if cigarettes aren't allowed anywhere.

And the one scent you missed which I guess is technically Commerce City is whatever that dargnarmit hootenanny burnt oil/tire smell is near where 270 begins.  I've smelt that down and over in Aurora when the wind is right.  How are they going to make that illegal too?
