West High closed until Wednesday due to bedbugs: Does Denver have a problem?

West High School is closed until Wednesday so that exterminators can ensure the campus is bedbug-free after three of the little suckers were found in a classroom, according to a letter sent home to parents and shared in its entirety by 7NEWS. In the letter, West's principals assure parents that area was immediately treated and the Denver Public Schools pest control team "determined that we do not have an infestation on the West campus."

But can the same be said for all of Denver?

Maybe not, according to our 2011 cover story, "Bug Bedlam!" From the story:

Denver's bedbug infestation is said to be one of the worst in the nation. Last summer, pest-control giant Terminix ranked the city's problem No. 6 in the country based on the volume of calls to its offices. Meanwhile, Orkin ranked Denver No. 4, behind only Chicago and the Ohio cities of Columbus and Cincinnati. By Orkin's calculation, New York City -- commonly thought of as the bastion of the modern-day bedbug -- was No. 7.

Lutheran medical center can't go through an entire week without getting a patient or two, coming in with bed bugs. It's sickening.
