Reader: I'm not proud to share Colorado with the counties that want to secede

Our item about the counties that voted to secede from Colorado to create the 51st state riled up readers in a big way -- and even though the move is mostly symbolic, a lot of the posts can be summed up by the phrase "Good riddance." Here's one of many examples.

Alyssa Stump writes:

Let the hillbillies secede, but we will not be South Colorado [so] those bitches have to be North Colorado. I have been to all of those counties. Having lived in Logan county, and I'm not too sure I'm proud that I share a state with them anyway :|

The only real issue with any of these secession movements is the Senate. Other than that outmoded, anti-democratic body, there is no reason whatsoever we couldn't have 51, or 57, or 75 states or more.

With a Constitutional amendment to disband the Senate and grow the House rather than re-district it, every backwards thinking hillbilly (and urbane leftist) can vote for representation they actually want.

It's a truism that rural areas are more conservative and cities are more liberal. In this country urban living has recently surpassed rural living, and that is bound to make rural conservatives uncomfortable. I think that one of the benefits to living in the city is that you see more diversity and learn tolerance for other peoples' lifestyles, cultures, and beliefs. In that spirit, I think we should be compassionate towards the secessionists, as they are becoming the minority and don't have the diverse experiences that urbanites do. Their movement is small and doomed, and eventually they will see that urban liberals don't want to take their guns and force them to grow hemp, we just want their gay sons to be able to get married.

What an asshole. Enjoy the californication of Colorado. All you losers wouldn't be eating fresh food without these counties. Another example of the people that scream for acceptance and tolerance for differences in lifestyle and personal choice to show their real side when it requires acceptance of ideas they don't agree with.

Why should we give up any piece of land to people that have moved to Colorado from another state?  They should just move back to the state they came from, and everyone will be happy again!

Michelle's right: we don't have sealed borders and you don't need a visa to leave.

They have it right. The Liberal idiots have taken over Colorado Politics. This is one way to fix the problem.

They can move elsewhere if they dont like the politics of the rest of the state. I live here because i like everything about it. If i didnt, id go somewhere else instead of being a child about it like they are.

Secession is a constant state of affairs in these United States. In the South, we have the hillbillies who rarely leave their own neighborhoods, who don't want any "gobberment" telling them what to do. Texas filed for secession after the 2012 election. As a gay marriage advocate I hear the two arguments repeated near daily. First, the one given and then, "You're not taking what's mine and doing wealth redistribution with it". They both arguments with zeal, as if the statements have any relevance to the at hand situation. So, what it boils down to is, the people claiming to be the adults in the room are really the first to say, "Then I just won't play!".

According to my calculations, the 5 counties that voted to secede from Colorado (Cheyenne, Kit Carson, Phillips, Washington, Yuma) account for 0.5633% of Colorado's population, according to the July 2012 Census Bureau estimate. Yet in July 2012, these 5 counties raked in only 0.3555% of Colorado's net state sales tax (total: $705,000).

Just putting that out there.

@Parker ... just goes to show that selfish, ignorant Regpugs and Teabaggers always want MORE than they put in.

These traitorous seditious asswipes should be FORCED to leave Colorado -- Deport Them ALL to Wyoming ... or Nebraska.
