Videos: Paul Walker's death and future of Fast & Furious 7, partly filmed in Colorado

Colorado fans of the Fast & Furious franchise had an additional reason to anticipate the seventh volume of the series, since scenes for the flick were filmed in Salida earlier this fall. However, production has been halted for a tragic reason: On Saturday, co-star Paul Walker, forty, died in a single-car accident in California. (He was a passenger in the vehicle, driven by financial adviser Roger Rodas.) Walker's friends and fans reacted with grief even as Hollywood executives considered the film's future. Photos, tribute videos and details below.

Walker's first IMDB credits date back to the 1980s, with appearances in plenty of TV shows (Highway to Heaven, Touched by an Angel) and films such as Pleasantville and She's All That. But his breakthrough was as Brian O'Connor in 2001's The Fast and the Furious -- a role he reprised in multiple sequels. He was a key part of the seventh Furious flick, too, but according to the Hollywood Reporter, filming was on pause for the Thanksgiving break when the crash occurred Saturday afternoon near Valencia.

KABC was one of many news organizations that covered the aftermath of the crash. Here's a screen capture from the station's coverage.

Among the notables saluting Walker was Vin Diesel, who also became a star thanks to the Furious films. Here's one of his tweets....

...and another:

In addition, Universal, the studio behind the Furious films, issued a statement that reads in part: "All of us at Universal are heartbroken. Paul was truly one of the most beloved and respected members of our studio family for 14 years, and this loss is devastating to us, to everyone involved with the Fast and Furious films, and to countless fans. We send our deepest and most sincere condolences to Paul's family."

Thus far, Universal has declined comment about how Walker's death may impact Fast & Furious 7, but according to the Reporter, some tough decisions will have to be made. Although a significant amount of footage is said to be in the can, filming was set to start up again in Atlanta yesterday, with more sequences slated for Abu Dhabi in January. Those plans are on hold at this writing, but the Reporter notes that executives and filmmakers held a conference call yesterday to discuss the path forward, including possible rewrites to deal with Walker's death.

Of course, major characters have died over the course of the Furious films, including Michelle Rodriguez's Letty Ortiz -- although she was resurrected for Fast & Furious 6. Unfortunately, no such screenwriting slight of hand will be possible for O'Connor. Our condolences to Walker's friends, family, loved ones and admirers.

Here are some of the many tribute videos to Walker that have popped up in recent days.

Amazingly STUPID you are, Paulie. It's rather dishonest for you to chide others on Lamebook for "not offering anything of substance" while being guilty of said "crime," yourself. Pot, meet Kettle. You're welcome, ass wipe. [Go ahead and click "report" since that is what butthurt Lamebook Losers like to do when their precious wittle feelings take a beating.]

And now, you've just proven yourself to be as dense and ignorant than the objects of your very scorn (in this case, pop-culture obsessed youth). Why? Because all it takes is a quick Google News query to show that the bulk of the nation's (and world's) major news sites are bombarding the Interwebz with non-stop coverage of Mandela's death and with numerous vigils celebrating his life in his home country and elsewhere. Keep digging your hole deeper, you miserable old sod. Geez, you fucks are TOO EZ!

No your an idiot,No your an idiot, no your an idiot, no your an idiot. Grow the F**K up Sterling Meeks. If you cant see something wrong with a world that holds actors above the likes of say Nelson Mandela who just passed away as well, then you are part of the problem with todays society. Simple as that!

If you have something to say about something, then by implication, you actually DO share SOME amount of concern about the topic even though you may not personally ENJOY said topic. By claiming that you do NOT care, you are, in fact, straight up LYING. That makes you a BIGGER idiot.

Were should it have been posted Sterling? In general, if you got something to say about something, you put that something were it gets read, and understood about the something your writing about. I sse by your posts, You have nothing of value other then to trash others so, I stand by what I posted.

It absolutely DISGUSTS me that so many of you people are so careless and disrespectful!!! And shame on you Westword for starting it: "Are you a Paul Walker fan?". What the HELL is wrong with people & our society!? Like his movies or not he was a human being that deserves the decency of you simply not responding if you have nothing nice to say. This is SO sad : (

You'd think with the millions of $$ he has, he could afford some remedial English classes so he doesn't sound like a grade school dropout ... i.e. a typical stoner.

Saw this posted on CNN about Mr. Walker... I just wanted to share a story about Paul and who he was and what he did for others. A number of years ago my parents had a flat tire and were on the side of a very busy 101 freeway in Southern California. They are getting up there in age and that was a huge deal for them. So, they pull over to the side of the road and called me up and I left work as quick as I could as they were both very distraught and concerned as they didn't know what to do. I called AAA and they sent out a tow truck and I got there approx. 30 minutes later. The tow truck driver has not shown up yet but there were this guy changing my parents tire. It was Paul Walker!! I recognized him immediately as I was a big Fast and Furious fan. My parents had no idea who he was and after he changed the tire my parents thanked him and we offered to take him out to dinner. He just said no thanks and that he hoped we had a good day and that he was glad he could help out and then he drove off. That was it. My parents still talk about that "nice actor fellow" who helped them out. Classy guy!

Hey Mikey,

Why did you nuke Melanie's story on Hemp, was she critical of your blatantly FALSE headline about the unlicensed harvest being "legal" ?

I'm sure there are more than a few idiots who were inspired to race up and down I-25 after watching these movies.  They should have stopped making these after the first movie.
