Reader: Predictions of Colorado going to hell if pot legalization passed have all been wrong

Hancock.
We're still collecting comments on our interview with a spokesman of Mayor Michael Hancock denying that Denver is dragging its feet on the pot sales launch. The following reader cites a 2012 Hancock quote predicting huge problems if Amendment 64 passed before adding a zinger of his own.

stuka1 writes:

HanKook: "We don't want to be the first state in this nation that legalizes marijuana. I believe we will lose our attractiveness to companies, employers who want to come to our state. Tourism is the number-one industry for the City of Denver, number two in the state of Colorado, and I believe that sector will be disproportionately harmed with the perception that Denver is the marijuana capital."

And none of this FUD ever came to pass. Who'da thunkit?

No. What has made Colorado a slightly worse place to live is all of these PBR-swillin' hipster-douche DWEEBS who, year after year, continue to vote in these morally butthurt, gentrifying pseudo-leftist assholes.

I love living in a state that doest give the monopoly of mind altering substances to a very dangerous drug like alcohol. Both for medicinal and recreational use.

Potheads RULE!!! But most people really don’t like potheads. Especially, those who are against it for all the right reasons. Don’t get me wrong this is what the people of Colorado wanted.

One must still factor in the Federal Laws, though they say they are going to turn their eyes to the current federal laws. But rest assure when things go wrong??? And with RICO laws our government stands to gain $$$ if it does.

Our Mayor Hancock has felt the pressure from those who don’t believe in braking Federal Laws to gain access to more taxation. Mayor Hancock says when he is out of state, people only ask him about two topics.

Broncos and Marijuana they seem to go hand and hand with the way our state is being run???

This is what happens when people who don’t smoke MJ think they know how the MJ industry works.

I can tell you that the bad, very bad individuals and entities will be coming to Colorado to take over what the city and its people voted for.

Oh…those who think MJ is harmless never lived out side DENVER or COLORADO for that matter!!! MJ could lead to trouble for the end users.

Now with the free needles to drug addicts near schools, this is the straw that will brake not only DENVER’S back, but COLORADO's too.

There are many liabilities that corporations will not be able turn their backs do to OSHA work related accidents and the plain fact it’s still against federal laws!!!

Lets not forget Popo!!! They are now going to be able to DWI anyone they think has red eyes, so get your DUI attorneys ready…and don’t forget your tooth brushes!!!

I predict that the fallout of loss revenue from people not coming to Colorado and companies who will change their minds on opening their businesses will be felt annually from here on out!!! (oh...but the influx of end users from across America will be coming for sure!!!)

The best part of this potentially state legalization was the power of the vote, it worked and now we have to deal with it. But people who never smoked dope will never know what is like; no matter how many books one reads or how many people try to tell them of the high!!!

Oh…and the children???

Don’t think they are going to escape the clutches of MJ or the pushers that will be coming into Colorado with their own weed!!! It will be cheaper to buy from them saving 45% added tax (for those who want to be legal in the states eyes or just grow their own), and lets not forget the other drugs these perpetrators of highness will be pushing for those who want to catch a better high???

Why do I know this…I will never tell just yet…pass me the pipe and lets celebrate the power of the VOTE!!!

Anyway, and the silly fines are far easier to deal with...than a DUI!!! And you still get go to jail!!!

Oh...next time you smoke a blunt and you get into a car accident...the man don't need to smell alcohol to get you for DWI!!!

Denver's Police Department is already preparing the new jail for MJ violators! The city stands to make a lot of money if they plan it right!!!

Some of you will wish you stayed in the closet for this one!!!

I'll predict that legalization won't really change the number of people smoking pot. It is what it is here in Colorado and has been that way for a long, long time. The new laws are only going to serve to save money for the state related to incarcerations and for people paying silly fines. Oh - and then there'll be the new taxes. All good stuff.

Since the law doesn't become effective until January 1st, I think it is too early to tell. Ask again in a year

People are funny. I am a teacher who moved to Colorado in March from the east. Fact of the matter is - the tax money is going to education - and after seeing Colorados schools and working with Colorado school kids - Colorado REALLY needs that. Colorado school kids are at least a year behind kids I've worked with in several states on the easy coast, across the board. So, let people smoke weed, let the schools get the money from it, and it will absolutely help the state overall.

No. I wish people would use their grown up words while debating. Bashing people is not a form of debate. It is a form of bullying. If you have something to say, please be an adult about it.
