Hancock.
Last week, we interviewed a spokesperson for Mayor Michael Hancock about suggestions among marijuana community members that Denver is undermining the kickoff of recreational pot sales on January 1 -- an assertion she denies. Still, the city seems worried about what could go wrong with the launch, and so is this reader.

Jeff Keller writes:

I hope this doesn't turn into a huge debacle!

Pot is just like alcohol and tobacco, so get over it if the masses choose to use it.

Wyatt Scott, I'm thinking the same. Really? That was supposed to stir up an intellectual debate? More info next time, please.

Of course. Nobody here ever seems to get it right. This will be no exception.

All of the comments saying to basically "chill out" have no experience with the business side of the medical mari industry. If they did, they wouldn't be saying that it works just fine. Maybe if you're just buying herb, otherwise it's a nightmare of regulations and control. Just to work at a dispensary, you give up all legal rights. It's a joke, and a lot of people want to prevent that from happening to rec herb, but of course it will happen anyway.

It will be a disaster due to the gov't. The medical side works just fine.

"I hope this doesn't turn into a huge debacle!" Certainly a well thought out and succinct analysis of this coming event.

Just like a lot of news things, it will have its ups and downs , good and bad, problems and successes. All in all we will be okay in the end and we can get on with life. A little patience would be helpful..

My main concern is that the supply won't meet the demand and I won't be able to get my medicine because of the recreational demand. I can't afford to put up a supply ahead of time. So I'm hoping I won't have to do without. Nothing relieves my symptoms as well as cannabis.

Depends on how the prices will be, selections to smoke and eat. The industry will have to find a way to pull from the strong black market. The black market may win for a while, low overhead.

I smoke marijuana. I'm not gonna rush out on Jan. 1 and look to stock up. I have a regular thing, as far as that is concerned. Just like anything new, anti- people get uppity. It is law, so it is happening. Don't git yer panties in a bunch...

No worries. The votes are getting exactly what they voted for -- Strict Government Regulation.

Lube up, suckers.
