Adonnis Rucker's alleged claim: "Since you don't have money, you're going to get raped"
Earlier this month, we asked if you could help identify a man who'd allegedly tried to sexually assault a woman just off a bus.
Big photos, video below.
Turns out the individual suspected of committing the crime, Adonnis Rucker, is seventeen. But the Denver District Attorney's Office has decided to charge him for this offense and others as an adult -- a decision that will presumably help keep him in custody, since he recently escaped while in juvenile custody. Photos, video and details below.
Our first look at the person now identified as Rucker came before we knew his name. The January 8 incident in question involved a reported robbery and sex-assault attempt near an RTD bus stop at South Monaco and East Iliff, an area captured in the following interactive graphic. The RTD subsequently released two images of the suspect culled from surveillance video. Here's the first....
...and the second:
At first, only a general description of what happened was released. But a more detailed account appears in Rucker's arrest affidavit, shared below in its entirety.
At approximately 10:09 p.m. on the 8th, according to the document, a woman was on her way home from school and waiting for the bus at the Southmoore Light Rail Station, at 3737 South Monaco Parkway, when a man approached and asked her for the time. Once the bus arrived, he and the woman boarded -- and they both disembarked at Iliff and Monaco.
Then, as the woman walked to her apartment, the man grabbed her from behind, threw her to the ground, struck her on the left side with what she described as a "hard object," and ordered her to "Give me all your money!"
She did so, handing over around $200. But the man wasn't satisfied. The affidavit maintains that he went through her backpack, removed a cell phone, and dragged her behind a wall. In response to her screams, he choked her and said, "If you call for help, I will kill you."
Fortunately, the woman managed to get away as the man was tugging at her pants.
Just over a week later, on January 16, the cops heard about another offense they now believe was committed by Rucker, too.
