Reader: Denver is great, but please move somewhere else

Last month, we spotlighted a blog's picks for the ten best U.S. cities of 2013 -- and naturally, Denver made the cut.

Our readers responded in a slew of amusing ways, although most of them didn't throw out the welcome mat. Here's an especially funny example.

Richard Thiem writes:

The city is at capacity; please move to LA or Vegas.

Okay Sterling. I am sure you have something smart to say in the favor of the D?

Hence, the complete Hipsterfication of Portland. Dear, Ford.

LOL. I see that the original comment you're alluding to was deleted (seeing as my reply no longer appears in my Activity Log). Besides, what I said is true. The blurb is about SOMEONE ELSE'S opinion of transplants and is NOT necessarily reflective of any particular WW staff member. Besides, if you actually even so much as skimmed through the rest of the comments, you could plainly see that I am very much in OPPOSITION to the rampant idiotic "Nativism" that is displayed by this Mr. Thiem and various other DWEEBS in this very Lamebook thread. Did you flunk grade school reading comprehension? That appears to be case, Ms. Chase.....you Stupid Ignorant Cunt, you.

You sound as if you were anally raped by one of these "CALIFUCKERS." LuLz

The Springs isn't that far behind in the "crowding" dept...unless if you don't mind commuting from some shit cow town farther to the east.

Driving like a dick isn't exclusive to any particular state or locale. It's part of the overall American psyche.

Sterling Meeks
Sterling Meeks

No, it's not. Despite losing nearly 2/3 of its population since 1950, Detroit is STILL more "crowded" (denser) than Denver. The state as a whole has a density HALF of that of...lo and behold...TEXAS! We can surely understand now why you chose to study English. You were -- and still are -- horrible at even rudimentary mathematics. SIC

Sterling Meeks
Sterling Meeks

No, it's not.....mAsshole! (You, of all folks, should be used to high-density.)

I think there are California transplants everywhere. After Oregon was named the top place for people to move, the people there were complaining about the California transplants too, lol.

Another SIC perpetuating abject stupidity on a Lamebook thread because she is clearly to fucking lazy to read. Per the headline and the actual article, this piece was not from Westword staff but another member of the audience spewing a bunch of invective very much like the author of this very post. LuLz.

Average rent for a one-bedroom apt in much of NYC is over $3K. In Denver, it's about 1/4-1/3 of that for a comparable dwelling. Unlike, NYC, there is still plenty of space around Denver metro to develop, so stop whining.

Funny. I came across more Californian transplants in Texas than here in CO although the vast majority of them originated from the meth-fueled part of the state (Central Valley) and are as backwards as native east Texans they now mingle with.

After a while, the Rocky Mountain "High" meme will become passé as other states gradually decriminalize Mary Jane.

What a bunch of obnoxious people! Each place that I have lived - including California - has its pluses and minuses. I am originally from the Rocky Mountains and moved to California thirty years ago. I moved back to Denver seven years ago. I'm ready to move back to the West Coast. At least in California we don't have a bunch of insecure people trying to convince themselves that they are superior to every one else. Grow up!

It's funny how people complain about Californians moving here. I know/have met way more people from the east coast than California.

Colorado is the most pleasant of all the fly-over states.  Too bad about the dreadful restaurant scene and all the dim witted Midwestern transplants

No worries, no worries at all because Portland is the city of choice now. Of course once their rents skyrocket and traffic gets to be a real issue I wonder where the camp followers will go next? Boise? Helena? It will be interesting to see.

I think the whiny locals need to move. Guess what? The transplants changed this city from white trash heaven to up and coming future metropolis. Dafuckoutofhere

I'm not an uptight Californian, in fact, I really never met an uptight Californian. I've been back and forth to Colorado, since 82. My longest stint in Colorado 20yrs.

I think it's a double-edged sword.  One on hand I love that our economy is booming; on the other, the number of inexperienced winter drivers seems to have exploded and I no longer feel safe at the hands of others on the road.  I still love it here though.

Being Hispanic, the only increase I've seen in Denver in the past 10 years is an increase in bigotry towards Hispanics; however, I don't think this has as much to do with the influx of people from other states as it does with regards to an influx of people from Mexico and other Latin countries. I am Spanish on my dad side and his family has been here prior to Colorado being a state, so all you bigots can take your asses home and stop throwing your hatred into a melting pot of Hispanics. lol

As someone who grew up in Denver, the so-called 'California takeover' happened to Denver LONG ago. But what do you expect when you have an impeccable civic government, commitment to the arts, steady job market, good public transit and excellent infrastructure. Overall the prices have remained affordable, the city has culturally grown and is much more cosmopolitain than it was 20 years ago, and the quality of life there is some of the best in the country.

To the person who said it's gotten NYC expensive. That is the most ridiculous comment on this entire thread. I implore you to take a look at what the Denver Median price for a 3BR home ($319,000) will get you in New York, or San Francisco, or Chicago you'll realize what a hilarious statement it is to even begin to compare the markets.
