Reader: Texting drivers are even worse than ones who are shaky and semi-blind

Hosch.
When sharing our post about a deputy's fatal crash involving Kenneth Hosch, 83, we asked folks on Facebook about their thoughts regarding the risks presented by some elderly drivers. The responses we received back were fascinating, with this one turning the question in an unexpected direction.

Deanna Angelo writes:

Yes, it's dangerous to have shaky semi blind drivers on the road. But I'm fairly sure all of you are the worst drivers in the country. This is simply because you all drive 5-10 under the speed limit. Not because you're safe drivers, but because you all are texting like assholes since it's somehow appropriate for the rest of us to wait behind you because you have no awareness that there are other people who have somewhere to go-and don't enjoy putzing behind you.

Sterling Meeks actually, I would love to drive in just one lane but get forced out of that lane by slow ass drivers who should be moving to the right lanes where slow traffic belongs. And the traffic isn't caused by Californians, we don't drive 10mph under the speed limit in the left lane. Those are the morons who cause traffic

Talking on the phone should also be against the law while driving in my opinion Jake. There are some good tools to make it less distracting, but if you're using one hand to hold a phone and a significant part of your brain to hold a conversation you should NOT be driving.

"Lower than CO where people drive slow as shit" Where in the fuck do you drive around here? Oh yeah....Jake is clearly another one of those self-entitled southern Cali transplant douches who believe that zig-zagging in each lane to spare himself a few measly seconds is a "right." Strangely enough, a major contributor to accident/fatality rates here are, in fact, transplants from the coasts largely unfamiliar with the local roads. Beware of CA, FL, and TX plates. LuLz.

Fatalities Per 100 Million Vehicle Miles Driven: CO- 0.96, FL- 1.25 (Florida drivers must really suck), and CA where the average driving speed is nearly 80mph, 0.88 (Lower than CO where people drive slow as shit)

Talking on the phone is distracting also, whether hands free or not. Anything that makes you think about something other than the cars around you, which we all do, is distracting and dangerous.

You are incorrect Jake. There is a lot more brain activity involved in examining a message and composing a reply than in switching CD's. Not just the physical action, but the mental one.

Sterling you are a raging faggot. You prolly don't even have a car with your ratchety ass. Your ass only comments on Facebook from the library sitting next to some homeless guy beating his meat.

Anyone who texts behind the wheel should be treated like a drunk driver. No license for AT LEAST a year!!! Knock it off morons!!!

Don't necessarily agree, but his description of Denver drivers is spot on.

YES AND YES. Texting drivers are obviously distracted, BUT they are also arrogant. That arrogance leads them to believe that they CAN text and drive safely, until they CAN'T and someone gets hurt.

I put my car on cruise control, then text. And I'd never do it in traffic. Some people are better at multi tasking than others

Totally agree Adam Aedro Drotar, these are the worst drivers I have ever seen

Yes. Especially in Denver. Worst drivers in the country. Id rather be driving in Florida with all the elderly drivers any day.

Phones are too dangerous for drivers to use. It is convenient as hell, but anyone who says it is not dangerous is not paying attention.

Slow, inconsiderate drivers are the worst of the bunch. But seriously, is texting anyore distracting than swapping out tapes or CD's in the stereo, things we were all doing 20+ years ago? Answer is, no
