Reader: John Hickenlooper wants to fund a new anti-pot army

john.hickenlooper.leaf.jacket.205x205.jpg
We witnessed a comment explosion after publishing about Governor John Hickenlooper's suggestions about how to spend $100 million-plus in marijuana revenue, with most of the money earmarked for prevention campaigns and law-enforcement efforts. Here's one of the pithiest takes.

Monkey writes:

I'm pretty sure the new anti-weed army we just funded has a bigger budget than the DEA. That's progress for ya.

John Hickenlooper were you aware that the State Of Colorado has a Heroin Problem? Last year alone Boulder County saw twice the amount of Heroin Overdose deaths than 2012. If you talk to a Drug Task Force Agent in Denver they will tell you there is a Heroin problem right smack in the middle of Denver. John, do you have children?John Do you have Grand Children ? John Have you had to bury any of your children ? Well John I do have children one girl and two boys

That is exactly right John Hickenlooper pay attention to the real issue in Colorado Cocaine Crystal Meth and your Biggest Problem is Heroin. John Hickenlooper you have always had my respect, until now! You came in to Denver as a Restaurant Owner and showed them how to run a City! In fact I would say you were one of the finest Mayors Denver has ever seen. That is what has been puzzling me all day, why would a man of your stature not be fighting the fight with the citizens of Colorado. We fought to have marijuana legalized knowing full well that we would pay one hell of a tax for our God Given Right to ingest a substance into our body. We legalized marijuana we did not legalize Cocaine, Methamphetamine ,Opiates, or Heroin!!!!!!!! Denver has a major problem John Hich

Economics and revenue should play no role in considering whether MJ should be legal, the Guv says.  Fracking on the other hand, is all about cash and jobs... you see, ones a plant that grows from the ground, and the other is a highly industrialized activity that can cause toxic spills, blow outs, frack hits and flaming wells.

It all should go to our future which is our children.  Make sure there are after school activities help kids learn to turn to people that care. Make our children in colorado the smartest and best school in all america. Set up college funds for our children and go on and on . About how we should spend this money. Hopefully hick will do what the people want.

Us people have seen him bash cannabis use again and again. Us people voted to legalize cannabis in Colorado. Us people see everyday his crass attitude forward our industry. Us people are tired of being tolerated. Us people should be accepted and embraced. Us people are tired of our governor promoting alcohol use On base and staying there.

The taxes were supposed to be earmarked for schools...not the hypocrite's "I'm not running for a higher office" chicken shit agenda. He used to be a respectable business owner...now he's a self-serving politician. If he disagrees, fine, but he is a public SERVANT. Regular people would be fired from their jobs in a heartbeat for not doing what their employer said to do.

Yes because it's not a matter of opinion, it's a matter of reading the law, and this is exactly what is happening. It's called the MED and they will be the DEA of Colorado. They already have, and will continue, to come down harder on black market dealers now that any one or their dogs can get legal licenses (which is false) - they've become even more strict with the law because they act like they're throwing us a bone and we should be grateful to them for having the god-like benevolence to allow us to grow this highly controversial plant. And if you don't play by their rules, it's your life that they will destroy. I'm glad it's legal for adults now, but A64 created a monster at the same time and I don't know why any one is surprised that all this money will go to the MED, not for any ones benefit, but to pander to the prohibitionists and the all-encompassing greed of other politicians.

I was clearly under the impression that this money would be used for the schools. Put $99 Million into our kids educations that leaves $1 million to Governing the use and sale of marijuana. One Million dollars should be plenty to Govern the peaceful dispensary of marijuana. I say we allow $1million per year to fight the drug thats it, anything above that goes directly to the schools.

If he wants to fund it with his own money, he is welcome to. With tax dollars? No! The majority of voters (read "taxpayers") voted to make it legal. Stop trying to sidestep the election process!

Why doesn't Mr. Founder of Wynkoop Brewing he spend alcohol tax money fighting alcohol use in Colorado? Hypocritenlooper.

Isn't the whole point of legalization to generate tax dollars to be used for more meaningful endeavors, ie not a war against the plant that generate the tax dollars in the first place. Get your head out of your ass loopy

A64 promised an army of pot cops funded by the department of revenue to enforce the strict regulation it begged for.

Gov. Hack plans to send much of the revenue from the excessive taxes on cannabis straight to the very prohibitionist parasites we need to remove from the public trough. Hack is an utter moron -- in the face of evidence that drivers' substitution of cannabis for alcohol has caused our traffic fatality rate to drop, he wants $2,000,000 for an anti-stoned driving campaign. Much more will go to the pigs and to those pretending to be medically treating minors who use cannabis and their propaganda. Before getting all geared up to tell teens not to use cannabis, the nitwits should give some thought to what they plan to tell them; all indications are that it will be the same outrageous lies the prohibitionists have been pushing since the 1930s.

It really is too bad that the President and his Collaborationist Party are reaping any political windfall from his capricious, vacillating policy towards cannabis. Obama has allowed commerce in cannabis in Colorado, but he refuses to remove it from Schedule 1 so that it can be properly studied and used as a medicine. The next Administration, even if it is elected by people who favor ending Prohibition, may well roll up the entire state-regulated dispensary system here, which could be accomplished in a matter of months. Legal cannabis is being offered to the People as a sop, much as Rome offered bread and circuses to keep its masses quiet; all three branches of the Federal government and both of the criminal political organizations that control it are defying the Constitution and have abrogated the Bill of Rights. I remain a political activist, but I will never support the Collaborationist Party or the Fascist Party or any of their candidates.

P.S. Google "ray mcgovern arrest hillary" for a possible foretaste of another Clinton Administration.

P.P.S.  No knee-jerk Clintonite would bother (aren't all critics of Hillary rightwing nutcases?) but try googling "ray mcgovern rumsfeld" too.
